Hi everyone - I am looking at a 33 foot SeaRay next weekend on Long Island. I live in Southern NJ. If all goes well I want to have the boat surveyed so looking for recommendations. Thanks.

Steve Maddock is the best in Long Island. You can also check I. With frank abbey or Greg michaels all used by many of my clients.

Al Prisco did mine. He is a long time member here.
See section 6 in the main forum list.

Al Prisco does a great job. Inspects everything and is a pleasure to work with. I would highly suggest using him.

I also highly recommend Al Prisco!
He just surveyed a boat for a friend last week and saved him a ton of money and grief!
Unfortunately it wasn't the news he wanted to hear but the boat had issues that were not noticeable to the average person.
Please keep in mind not all boats will get a positive report but this is the reason we need to have them inspected.

hey Bob-I've 34ft Cruisers Express (3372) on the market if you're interested. 2003, just repowered.

Thanks Gene - looking for something newer.

Went to see the boat yesterday. Made an appointment last week, confirmed mid-week that I was coming. Was a bit frustrated that after asking to see the engine compartment the sales guy tells me there’s no power so he can’t lift the hatch. Wtf. This is after a 3.5 hr drive and an appointment. I understand that things are a little crazy with the corona virus but he should of either had it ready or rescheduled.
Anyway the boat looked good outside, topside, cockpit was very clean. The cabin showed a little wear. He is going to send me some videos of the engine compartment this week and I will decide if I want to make an offer and have it surveyed. I had a good conversation with Al Prisco this week. In the mean time I will keep looking and have an appointment to see another boat this weekend. Just want to provide an update. Thanks.

Thanks for the update. The broker should have fixed the issue on the spot. Some people suck.

Best of luck there are plenty of boats for sale I'm sure you can find something you will be happy with!

If a hatch can't be opened except for by power, then I wouldn't want the boat.
There has to be another way.

Dave, There likely is but it is not something you do except when you really have to. It probably involves disengaging the ram and lifting manually. This is why on most the house battery is located elsewhere so a dead battery does not make you go through all that.

No excuse for broker who should have checked before they got there and either plugged boat in or brought a battery.

Not sure about this 33’ Sea Ray that the OP is interested in, but on some Sea Rays I think you you can back feed 12 volt power in to the cigarette lighter outlet at the helm with a jump pack in order to open the hatch.
There is also usually an access hatch in the cockpit deck that you can open, reach in, pull a pin from the ram, and lift the hatch manually.

Looking at a Chaparral 330 In Annapolis. Any surveyor recommendations in that region? Thanks as always.
