Hard to say this correctly. I have had the same surveyor twice. I paid him out of my pocket the second time because I really wanted his opinion of some things.
He wrote my Tollycraft 44 CPMY up twice for not having anything between the engine exhaust (3208TA Cats) and the bulkhead. I called Gordon, who is "Mr. Tollycraft" for us. He bought the Tolly parts when they went out of business as I recall. He says there never was anything between the engine exhaust and the bulkhead because it might have transferred vibrations.
The second thing is the batteries under the Inverter. I had water batteries under the Xantrex 2500 inverter. They were in a battery box. I understand gases off the batteries could cause an explosion, but is this applicable when batteries are in a box designed for batteries? BTW, I put AGM batteries in place of the water batteries. Does this solve the problem in your opinion?
The third thing is, he wrote me up for dry rot under the galley sink and forward to the bulkhead. I am handicapped and could not get in there to look. I hired a repairman who told me there does NOT appear to be any problem, except that some wood chips are way back in the corner from where a hole was drilled some time in the past.
I will need to have another survey done soon, for insurance. I want to use him, but don't want repeat erroneous write-ups. I guess I can just tell him what I found, before he does the survey, asking him his opinion.
Thanks...Dave
Thanks, Dave
