Just a general question. I have a 2008 2565, the swim ladder is mounted on the port side of the rear swim platform. What are your thoughts if the ladder is left in the down position while underway? I find it odd, that Regal placed the ladder on the port side of the swim platform. Do you think it is possible for the ladder to be torn off or damage the platform? As a long time boater, I have left the ladder down many of times!!!

Why do you think the port side installation is odd? Lack of visibility?

You stated your ladder is placed in the rear of the platform, then I would see no cause for damage if accidently left down unless of course it could come in contact with the drive while underway.

Speaking from experience, my ladder flips down on the port side of the platform and the support brackets were bent when left down accidently.

I would never intentionally run with the ladder down.

Ladders that are placed on either port or starboard of the platform are safer than ladders mounted on the stern edge --it keeps users away from the drives.
I think we all have forgotten to stow the ladder occassionally. Luckily for me, no damage done.

Make a "check-list" every time before starting your engine(s). Make a "tour" of your boat and check that every equipement used while you were at the anchor are stored and secured, all doors and port holes closed downstair,... . Don't rush. It only takes a few minutes.

Cobalt started doing putting them on the side of the swim platform a little while ago and we have had one example where we boat of the ladder getting bent when left down. It hs strongly constucted brackets etc., but the ladder itself which is a centre construction rather than edge construction bent.

I was just curious as to if the ladder would be damaged if left down. It sounds like it would be. I have had several boats with a center mounted ladder and never had any damage when I left the ladder down whil underway. Thanks group

There are pros and cons to each method, side vs back installs. If you raftup a lot then side installs can be a royal PITA sometimes. With I/O's the backside install can be dangerous as mentioned above.

Our boat has a side mounted ladder and we accidentally left it down on a trip from Mystic CT to Block Island RI. Aside from feeling really stupid there was no damage to the ladder which seems to indicate Regals use of decent quality components.

Thanks roomer, I was just curious to what would happen to the side mounted ladder. Its not if it will happen but when I will leave the ladder down.

I like to have my ladder on the side of the swim platform. We can use it even with my dinghy still hooked up. Just as I said before, I have to check everything is in place before moving.

I have never (until now...) let it down. It seems to be quite strong, but we never know...;)

My dingy is a 2 dollar raft from wal-mart. Eeasily replaced when left on another boat.

Borst -- I can tell you exactly what happens to a 2565 when the ladder is left down[:-cry]

It became loose enough to chip the gelcoat on the swim platform. Cost me several hundred to have it repaired.

Not worth it! But I always check now!

Riddlek, just as I thought. I guess its just a matter of time before I leave that ladder down.

Put a sticker on your dashboard "SWIM LADDER....STORED", could help...;)

Nouchka, thanks. I had some stickers made to place above the fresh water fill and gas fill ports. It would be to easy to fill up the wrong tanks if a dock person was not looking at the caps.
