1999 glastron gs249 volvo penta 5.0 gi,my tach seems to be reading about 600 rpms more then engine is reving,any ideas on a fix?

There should be a switch on the back that designates readings for 4/6/8 cylinder.

Disturbing the switch by selecting the wrong number of cyls and then going back to the right number sometimes cleans contacts and it works better again.

I have the same issue with my '89 tachs. I have to routinely take a screw driver to the cylinder selection screw and run it thru the different settings to clean the contacts. It's a pain in the backside, but much cheaper than new tachs.
