Anyone going to see the tall ships? We have a slip reservation from the 4th through the 12th in Boston, but the time off is not going to happen. (we plan on doing the 4th somewhere on the Cape)

Not being able to see the parade of ships in on Wednesday, I'm wondering if it worth doing by boat at this point. Maybe just drive up and tour some of them?....

We've seen them twice, once we were on Spectacle Island - now a Public park and once on the boat. We anchored right by Castle Island and it was a great show. That was a few years ago but if there are enough ships coming in, then it might be worth it. Where is your slip reservation?

I am staying in Plymouth for the 4th and then heading up to Boston. I am trying to decide if the parade is worth it. I will be staying at Boston Harbor Marina. Where would be the best place to anchor to see the parade?

Do you mean Boston Waterboat Marina?

The latest I have heard that due to budgets by the City of Boston, there will be no grand parade of sail, only staggered arrivals on July 8, not even under sail. The ships will be open for boarding while in port. It is difficult to get information on what will actually be happening. In previous years the coats guard published maps with designated anchorages for viewing. I have not seen these maps this year and am assuming there will be nothing worth watching.

The staggered arrivals instead of a parade is correct. No fireworks either. The financial problems, and the final agreement with the state, have been in all the papers, so I won't elaborate here. However, the event, albiet smaller than originally hoped, is finally "on" for sure.

The Coast Guard seems to have been frustrated by the difficulties the organizers and the city have had finalizing plans, and so their own plans have had to be very flexible. I suspect this may be contributing to the lack of published data. I think it will start falling together pretty soon now. I should know a lot more by Thursday, and I'll pass along any details I hear about locations.

We are going to cancel our slip, can't get the time off we wanted with short notice and no plans from the tall ships organizers. We were only one boat and a couple thousand dollars....

Nice job, sail Boston!

Not easy to lure us from the Cape, and with the downgrade for the event it's a very easy decision!

The plan now is for 47 ships, although some are smaller vessels. The biggest ships, and the ones open to the public, will be at the World Trade Center fish pier and the Charlestown Navy Yard pier. Hours will be 5-10 PM Thursday & Friday, and 10 AM to 8 PM Saturday and Sunday. There will be no parade, and an effort is being made to stagger the arrivals so that a de-facto parade does not develop.
