Hi, anyone know if there are any power boating clubs in the TB area? Looking to meet folks that love boating and have social activities for us to attend...thanks!

Google United States Power Squadron.
They are into boating educating, but also have good boating events.

there are a handful of us local that would love to meet up. just in the manatee river are skeetobite and oceanspray. plus there is a few from st pete, ruskin and sarasota.

several yacht clubs and the power squadrons fill the bill.

Hi, we took the boat out today and went over to chat with some folks at the Boca Ciega Yacht Club in Gulfport. That seems like a nice place and the folks we met were very friendly and welcoming! I think we may have found ourselves a place to make new friends, enjoy cruising company and participate in their social events...

slips available at TITYC with reciprocity to other florida council clubs and no innitiation fee at the moment

Hi Bruce, just curious, do you belong to the TITYC? I know you need to be "sponsored" at some of these clubs. And the cost is a big factor. We are teachers, starting to look at purchasing a house and upsize the boat, so not much money left over to join anything too costly...

Yes and sponsorship is not a big deal at the moment. You need to decide what services you want. The Florida council of YCs is only open to clubs meeting certain requirements. There are many social clubs that offer various services that may satisfy you but if you are looking for a traditional type YC there are only a few in the area. Reciprocity is a nice feature if you are into cruising to other areas as you are welcome to visit any other club as if it were your home club. Dockage is usually lower than commercial locations.
Where you live is also important because you may want a nearby club or if you will be using the boat as a weekend retreat then you may want dining and swimming tennis etc at the club. As I said your choice should depend on your interests.

I could sponsor you at the Isles Yacht Club, but you'd have to mopveto Punta Gorda.

RWS- thanks, but we will be staying in the Brandon area.

Bruce, I was looking at the TITYC website and had a couple of questions for you. Do you keep your boat there? If so, can you give me any idea on the price for a boat (size 35'-38')? Is there a waiting list for slip rentals? If you cannot answer these questions, can you tell me who I should speak to? If you prefer to email me, that is fine and thanks!
