I know you people are out there. Where are you hanging out? Should we raft up for the 4th. Lets get back on the water.

We're doing Charlotte Harbor for the fireworks on the 4th at Punta Gorda.

25 reads and one comment. Are gas prices keeping us off the water.

nope just running alittle less, I'm prob going to be at beer can island (right acrost the bay from apollo beach) with my daughters on the night of the fourth best place in town to see all the fireworks.

I will join you at Beer Can as soon as I learn to get there from Apollo Beach.

Hmmm the Beer Can island I remember is 355mag, about 2 mi from the Apollo Beach channel. Just hang a right and it's right in front of you. If you come out by TECO it's about 305mag, 1.5 mi.

It's usually WAY too crowded for me on any holiday; then there're the nuts on their jet skis. I'll probably anchor up in the Little Manatee, watch the local show (and shoot off some of my own).

You should all come down to Marina Jacks in Sarasota for the weekend and watch the Offshore boat races. Friday Night is a boat parade and party on Main street. Saturday is meet and greet at 10 st boat ramp. Sunday is race day! you can watch them from in the water on your boat. By the way, everything is within walking distance from Marina Jacks aka Marine Operations.

i am going from my marina in palmetto to the middle of the river for fireworks.

as far as hanging out...if i stay local...i go to the north end of longboat key and anchor by moores stone crab restaurant. throw the dink and cruise it all weekend.

I'm going to the Gulfport fireworks display. Will be motoring out from Gulfport Marina all of about 300 yds from the entrance to the marina probably about 8:30 or so. Gulfport puts on quite a nice show-better than St. Pete IMHO and a helluva lot more convenient.

Why do boaters doch stern to and not bow in at Beercan?

mainly so thier swim platform and ladder are nearest to shore to be able to carry stuff and not have to swim to the island, i guess you found where it was anyway didnt you?

Cmariner, can you offer any local advice on where to go. I am new to the area, and come out of Cats point.
Where would you anchor in Boca Ciega?
I draft almost 3' , Carver 360 sedan .

I've never heard of Cats point and curious as to where that is. St. Pete has a nice display next to the Municipal Pier but there are alot of boats and I don't like traveling too far in the dark especially when many of the boaters will have celebrated too much. In Gulfport, they shoot off the fireworks from the beach next to the casino-the building that looks kinda like a quanset hut on the east end of the public beach. I usually anchor out southeast of the casino. The water east and south of the beach area is all pretty deep. When you get due south and north of the beach, there is a lot of skinny water and shoals-staying in the marked channels is a must and the side channel doglegs out to the main channel. If you are new to the area, a chart or a GPS with the chip is almost a necessity as the average depth of Tampa Bay and many parts of the surrounding areas are less than 4 feet. When I cut my teeth boating in this area, I had the advantage of an IO but I still screwed up several props "discovering" where not to go. The GPS with a chart chip gave me an immense feeling of confidence going into new areas now that I have inboards. My boat's name is the Sara Jean and I'll have the family out. If you see me, feel free to come along side. Give a holler if you have any other questions.

Rattlefish Bar and Grill is right next to you...used to be the old Bayside Marina but they have since razed the hi/dries to make way for new dockaminiums....rumor has it that it is going to shut down and go private but I find that hard to believe that they woulld leave all that business on the table.....

Hi,

I am new to this forum, and came accross Boatered through another board this morning. Anyway, I have an '06 Regal 1900 that we trailer around. We live off of 54 in the LOL / Wesley Chapel area, so I like to go to Caladesi or Three Rooker. I've put in at Maximo Park in St. Pete and cruised over to Egmont, and Safety Harbor to go tubing/wakeboarding.

I would be interested in meeting more fellow boaters in the area, as it is normally the wife, my son and I.

Welcome to the forum Juan. Most of us are great guys but there are a few grumpy old farts that you will get to know quite soon. We usually hang out on Sundays at Bunce's Pass which is just west of the Ft. Desoto boat ramp. I like to drown some bait while the admiral suns her buns and my younster plays in the sand. If the water is really flat, the admiral will allow me to take her down to Egmont Key but with gas prices what they are, I don't push too hard to go the extra 20 minutes. If you see an old fart (not grumpy though) hiding from the sun under a black bimini with a fishing rod in the rodholder on the bow, stop in and say hi.

C,
I'd like to come down to Bunces and meet you folks some Sunday (or whenever). Post when you go. Also, I've tried to get in there from the Gulf, a bit tight. How much tide does one need to make it in that way?

Juan,
I spend a bit of time up at Three Rookers and Caladesi. I'll post next time I head that way. Trying to get up there sometime this month, as my Sept is shot.

Check out seabiztampabay.com for a list of restaurants 'near" the water. They publish a quarterly magazine about local water stuff; it is the only one I know of and it will be helpful to local newbie’s.

I just crossed Tampa Bay from Beer Can to Tierra Verde and stopped at a friends house. It is HOT. Where is everyone?
