I have a 1985 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge. It has 4 teak steps screwed to a stainless rail to get up to the flybridge. I would like to replace the four steps with new teak, or even a less maintenance material, Does anyone have a suggestion where to purchase the 4 steps that I need to "brighten" up the boat?
Thanks, Bob

Old teak can be brought back to like new condition with a little work. When I had teak, I would clean with 50/50 ammonia/water & stiff brush. If desired lighter; I would apply 50/50 laundry bleach/water. Let it set & rinse off. Apply again if lighter shade is desired. Sometimes I would leave it unoiled & on other times applied tung oil. There are commercial cleaners & lighteners available but a lot pricier than my formula & I think are no better. See my other reply to your earlier post on different forum.

Bob...... Have you tried e-bay ? From time to time I see teak steps and teak boards on there.

Or you could just take the teak off, clean it up real nice and leave it at home. You could try to fashion some of the new Trex decking material in the right color. It would be maintenance free and look OK. Not great, but OK. It would need zero maintenance and might suffice. I think you could machine that stuff down to a similar dimension. Never tried it and I don't know what it would look like. It might be slippery, but it shouldn't be too bad.

You could also get the Plasteak replacements. I looked at doing that and the price kept a poor man like me from being able to pull the trigger to buy it. It looks OK, not great too. I'd keep the originals and replace them when I decide to sell the boat!

Don't replace the teak.....it will clean up with a little elbow grease (cleaner, brightener & lots of oil). Besides, so many boats today look like floating clorox bottles???? How much trouble are a few steps?

I just sanded our teak with some 80 grit then with some 120 grit and it looks spankin new.
Now I just need to get off my butt and oil it.
