Lurked here awhile gathering local knowledge. transited Del Bay today under ideal conditions, dead calm water. Docked at Utsch's in Cape May tonight and tomorrow. Ate lobster at Lobster House.

Any other CM "must-dos"? Given the weather, want to do some beach time tomorrow.

Wednesday headed to AC, but hope to just anchor out. Then up to Sandy Hook, maybe drop down towards Oceanport to hit Monmouth Park. Then up to NY and so on.

Advice, plus other, better, ideas ?

Thanks again and in advance,

George

PS: really enjoyed Summit North on the C&D, almost ideal combination of best aspects of anchoring out (our preference) and docking.

REally, just head into town. Lovely old victorian painted homes. Take the trolley tour around the area, have some ice cream and hit the beach!!

Yep, we had a great time, did just that (an easy walk by the way, via Washington St) and will try to spend more time here on the way back in the fall. Excellent thin crust pizza at Stumpos, too. Great fish market at the Lobster House; bought some cod and crab au gratin and cooked a nice meal on the boat.

I think we will just anchor out at AC this afternoon, thence to Sandy Hook tomorrow, and then a few days in NYC, staying in Great Kills Harbor. Again, any advice welcome!

If you like thin crust pizza, then let me suggest that on your way north to Sandy Hook, that you pull into the Shark River Inlet and get a slip in the Belmar Basin. Then take a cab, or you could probably walk the 1.5 miles, to Carmen's AKA Pete and Elda's.....IMHO they have THE best thin crust pie on the Jersey Shore. If you eat a Double eXtra Large pie by yourself, you get a free T-Shirt.....I have a wardrobe of T-Shirts.... :)

You can spend a few days in the Belmar area too if you like. After you enjoy some great thin crust pizza, head over to Kelly's tavern the next night for a fantastic Rueben....MMMMm....MMMM...!!!

Dominic, thanks! This is exactly the sort of "local knowledge" I value most. If not this trip, then on the way back.
May rent a car for a few days as an alternative; would like to hit Monmouth Park for a few races at some poin in the proceedings.

Sounds like you've just started on what might be a long voyage. Do you have a specific destination in mind?

Hey Cal, After AC, do you plan on running outside or in on the ICW?

Hey guys, started on the trip 9 months ago, from Baltimore down to the Keys, then back, and now up here. Northerly destination is Westport Harbor, Mass as the base for summer operations. Our boat can't do the inside NJ route, too much draft (5 ft).

Anchored over in Brigantine whilst in AC, took the dinghy over to explore AC proper (we've been there and done that, casino wise, by land, so we didn't get off the water in AC). Had a beautiful ride down the coast Wednesday; anchored off Sandy Hook. Wish I'd known Atlantic Highlands had such good (relatively speaking) fuel prices before I topped off at Cape May; anyway we found room this morning for another 180 gallons at $4.40 (going to $4.69 tomorrow) then came over to Great Kills on Staten Island, we are at the Mansion Marina and will hang around 'til at least Monday doing NYC. Our time in Jersey was short, but you couldn't beat the boating weather, and we'd like to linger longer in the fall.

From here we'll go up the Hudson for a few days, then dally along LI Sound, and get to Mass by 4th of July.
