The Search is Over - "New" to us boat

I made a deal with the Mrs, when looking for a new bout. Ill look from the waterline down (including the engine), and she can look for a boat water line up.

We just bought a 1986 Formula 242ss, with a 2007 Merc cruiser EFI i-o with a bravo one drive.

The hull needs a good compound and wax and the interior needs some work, but you simply cannot beat that hull and power plant.

We got a GREAT deal on it and hopefully we will be bringing her home on Sunday.

We are both very excited. I wouldnt to go newer and much larger, but the Mrs wanted something smaller and older.

Now the Mrs is asking me when we are going to Fire Island for an overnight. I told her Im not sleeping in the cuddy. Her response, "neither am I lets get a hotel room" Ahh, gotta love her.
 
Weren't you looking for a Viking a few years ago or do I have you confused with someone else?

Dave you are correct. We recently looked at a 40ft Viking, but the mrs didnt want to be tied to the boat for the entire summer. She is currently working on her disertation for her doctorate. So for the time being we will continue being a day boater till she finishes.

I couldnt believe how well the boat handled on sea trial. Shes one heavy beast too

Ive been trying to find out some info on these boats but i cant find much. When i do a search it comes up with the speed boat version. Not what i have.

Formula make a fine boat.

Be careful compounding the Imron paint. You have to do it properly.
 
Maybe it's not a speedboat, but if it's a Formula it's got good hull genes. Good sea boat. With that Bravo you can still get 2-NMPG+.

Congratulations on your new waterbuggy! Do you have any concerns about low-ish power? All the 242SunSport singles I see seem to have 454's or larger and my recollection is the Formula hulls tend to "come into their own" & have dryer ride and somewhat elevated speeds. If it feels good to you that's what counts.

From what ive read online, the 242ss came with a 5.7. The boat now does 42mph. Dry weight is 4200lbs and has a 130 gallon gas tank.

The boat handles really well and i am certainly impressed.

Pictures to come. Should be bringing her home on Sunday so ill take some pictures then
