The Vikings are coming

Great looking 112'LOA x 23'beam Viking replica. Only fitting they are cruising to Duluth where the Vikings taught Minnesotans how to play feetball.

As they are heading into westerlies crossing the big pond, I imagine it could get rather wet for the crew onboard as the vessel apparently is open except for a small canvas doghouse. Looking at the tall square sail sail-plan I wonder how much of a risk of capsizing these boats may face , and how much ballast they carry .
It does look like they may have a Simrad radar system and probably related modern electronics onboard.

Wishing them codspeed and best wishes, ... as long as they manage to keep the pillaging to a minimum over here.

But Vikings will be Vikings!

I dunno - all that "Rigging this" and "Jibing that" . . . something to be said for jumping aboard and turning a key!

And let me know the trip where the Vikings discover the Caribbean...

they made to Frankfort Mi. I have a pic to post but it has been a while since I posted.
so it might take a little bit to post.

I saw them in Frankfort as well... Interesting talking to the crew as they took the northern Atlantic route... The guy I spoke with said ice made things a bit hairy up there...

Why would you make a ship that big open.

Seems like there would be a huge problem with water that comes in over the side or bow. If my memory serves me they did not have automatic bilge pumps.

I didn't ! [:D)]

Maybe to limit the debilitating effects of all that body and clothing odor?

Saw the boat a couple days after arrived in Newfoundland early June. They had quite the support ship with them too.
