Thin black caulking on wooden decks ?

I am rejuvenating my decks on my 80's Trawler. I am staying with Cetol. My question is what is the black 1/4" wide material between the wider slats. Can I refill some of the grooves that have voids or cracks. I seem to recall it is a certain product.
 
No,I beg to differ, it is black polysulfied, usually by sikaflex. specific for teak decks
 
My friend did his Bertram. You have to get it all out then use a circular saw to cut the grooves deeper. As the wood wears the grooves get too shallow to hold the material.
 
Before the higher-tech caulk/adhesives were common I believe black butyl rubber caulking was used. But I agree with Paul, polysulfides Like Boat Life LifeCaulk and the Sikaflex polysulfide equivalent are most commonly used now.
