Things to do in Haverstraw & Croton on the Hudson

The Cold Spring Boat Club limits the boat size because their docks are not very substantial. Only pipe in the bottom holding the docks, not pilings. A large boat with a strong tide or large wakes could rip the docks out. I have seen plenty of large boats anchor out and dink in.There was a sign on the end of the dock with boat size limit on it. The riverfront towns could be more boater friendly but it is probably low on their to do list. It's very nice that the club lets us tie up with no fee. You do have to sign the guest book in the mailbox, Not an onerous task.

I'm sure you guys have done it number of times, can you give me some advise on best transportation method from Liberty Landing Marina to NYC? I've learned that we have two opitons, water taxi and light rail. Which one would be better without worry too much about the schedule?

It also depends on where your boat is docked. The Water Taxi stops on both sides of the canal. The Path (train to NYC) and light rail(to Hoboken) are on the north side only.

Check the "NY waterways taxi schedule" If you stay out late, you may find yourself taking the path back and either hiking or cabbing back to the marina.

There is only one water taxi service at Liberty Landing. http://www.libertylandingferry.com/

NY Waterways ferry does not land on that side of the canal. You can walk over to the other side of the canal if you want but really not needed.

Don't wast your time with the light rail, just take the ferry from Liberty Landing.

If you stay too late at night you can take a cab back or the PATH train to the light rail then walk the rest, but that can be a much longer journey than the quick cab ride would be.

I just checked the schedule and it looks like we'll need to use both (water taxi to get to the city and PATH to get back). Last boat is at 8:45pm, so it's too early for us if we're going for dinner in the city. Speaking of dinner, do you guys have recommendations for a good place near LLM? I know that LLM has restaurant, is it good? BTW, we're travelling with our two kids (girl 13 and boy 5).

Do yourself a favor and take a taxi back to LLM.

The Path station is nowhere near LLM, it's in the heart of JC (both stops). You will have to walk to the light rail and wait for the train, then the light rail station is a decent walk back to the dock, the kids will be beat by the time you get off the Path, trust me, I've done it.

The restaurant at LLM is good, Liberty House, not cheap but it was good last year, I haven't eaten there this year. You can get a nicetable outside and have an incredible view of NYC, they have live music outside there on Friday and Sat/Sun nights, sushi bar, fish, steaks, etc....

In Jersey City, Montgomery St. there is great Mexican at Baja, right next to it, O'Connells is very good too. Lighthorse Tavern is great as well. There are many places in JC to eat now, many are very good.

If you want to take a short cab ride check out the Crab House in Weehawken. One of my favorites.

Will do indeed.

Thanks for great suggestions.
