We are a group of 10 boats heading north from Sandusky, Ohio on July 26. Stops in Wyandotte, Windsor, Cove Marina, Ont, North channel Yacht Club, Club Island, Grosse Point Yacht club and Boblo Island. Looking for local info and sharing a beverage with local RO's

Ron

Boblo is Canadian, so the group will be landing in Ca, reporting back to the U.S., only to land in Ca again and report into the U.S. a second time. I don't recommend that. Just last night, a Searay with MC's pulled into PIB, shadowed by both the CG and Homeland Security. Each agecny put men ashore, who with the attention of 100+ spectators, marched over to the Searay for about a 30 minute "visit".

A simple adjustment to your itinerary could cut the chances of that happening to you by 50%.

Fwiw, I don't find Boblo particularly interesting. The group appears to be leveraging IYLA reciprocity...? The DYC might be a worthwhile alternative.

Ron we belong to the Clinton River Boat Club(Club Island) we'll be there later on the 27 & the 28 & 29 in the north harbor. The island does'nt have potable water so be sure to fill your tanks beforehand. I'll answer any questions about the area that I can.

Don
Thanks for the tip. We did not know about the potable water. Any spots to take dingy's to? Local swim spots? Most of all, tips on muskie spots? Do you recommend Decker's or Brownie's?

Ron

I'd recommend Brownies over Deckers. Brownies is on the Nautical Mile in St. Clair Shores at Emerald City and Jefferson Beach Marinas. There is also a Browns which is off the middle channel on Harsens Island.

Browns is the one I am thinking about. Is there another place to eat in the area? What about spots to explore by dingy?

Browns has very good burgers, fries, onion rings etc, open air bar & grill no A/C, no decor. It's about 1.5 to 2 miles up the Middle Channel from Club Island, great for lunch, weekends it's a zoo. From North Channel Yacht Club or Club Island the areas you can explore in a dingy are endless. From North Channel you can go into Fisher Bay, from Club Island you can go into Goose Bay to the north or Big & Little Muscamoot Bays to the south. None are really more than 3 feet deep, water is clear & clean good for wading around & staying cool.
Here is a site with some more info

Let me know if you need any more info.Go to Yahoo image search St Clair River Delta for some pics of what the area looks like.

Crossing the boarder. We all have I-68's or Nexus cards. Just a phone call to enter or leave country. ( Canada ) The B R number works very well. We cross the boarder at many times durning the boating season.

I have barely even used the boat this season, I am how ever on Vacation this week. What is the itinerary?

Just returned from our 2 week cruise to Lake St Clair. North Channel Yacht Club and The Club Island folks were very good hosts. You could not ask for a better hosts. We used or dingies to explore outstanding swim spots by Grassy Island and Moscamout Bay. Lunch at Browns, great local hang out. We picked up our Canadian fishing license and went muskie fishing. We caught and released 16 muskies, 32" to 46", just off thr Thames river. Our 1 day overnight stop in Windsor took us to thr Hiram Walker distillery. The tour is outstanding. Lots os sampling. Lunch on the patio by thr Detroit River. Grosse Point Yacht Club was our next stop. The Ford Family yacht was in. This is one large boat. Dinner at the Ford Estate just northof Grosse Point Yacht Club.

Ken, sorry we did not get a chance to hook up. We started our cruise on July 25.
