This Weekend

Yeah,
Just the cost of gas and the distances I have to go to fish just makes it not fun anymore. And then the cost of fishing licenses and the stupid way Fish & Game manages the fishing makes me sick and completely unsupportive.

I'm beginning to loose interest in something I've been doing for over 50 years...both fishing and boating.

Liz, they say it's one of the two happiest days of a boater's life! I can't imagine being boatless...

Best wishes to you and I hope you take up some of the offers from your fellow RO's. You know that if you ever make it to NY you have a ride here!

Sorry to hear that there will be one less experienced, caring Delta boater on our beloved waterways. [:-cry]

God knows that we certainly need more of them!

Sounds like you are making a wise move financially though. Way too many folks out there wouldn't have the guts to do what is right versus what they "want"... (Just look at the current financial messes out there. It's sad!) Kudos to you!

You are a valuable asset to this site and are a wealth of "first hand" information.

Plenty of folks like to talk, but you have "walked the talk" and I respect you for that.

Owning a boat or not, you are a BOATER.

No one can take that away from you!

Sad news Flutterby :(

I sold Kanaloa II early in 2008....and miss her a ton. In fact was stalking her at Willowberm yesterday....renamed....but with oh so many memories. Thats how I ended up logging in here after 2 years absense :)

I hope your future (and the economy) turns and we can all afford to be back doing what we love!

Cheers!

Her boats just goin' up to Alaska with her son, Doug.:)

Got her boat towed to my house for some work.

Hotter 'n sh*t up in the Delta. I got heat stroke and my blood sugar dropped. Nearly passed out.

As I crossed the B.I. bridge this afternoon on my way back to storage with the motorhome, the temp was 101!

Hotter than: [}}:-|>>] ,[:-devil] and [:-hot]! [:-boggled]

Wow, Liz, really sorry to hear you're getting out of boating :( I am happy you'll still be hanging around here, though - we need you!

Liz,

I was shocked when I read your post. There are certain things that I always thought were constants, like the tide and Flutterby in the the Delta. Your presence will certainly be missed and I'd like to extend an offer for you to join us on our boat should you ever want to come out and play for the day. I hope that you will still be involved here at BoaterEd and continue your vigilance over Delta issues. You have been a bright spot when it comes to defending the Delta and from what I read in Sunday's paper, I think that will be needed more than ever in the near future.

Sad to see one of the more active RO getting out of boating. I wish you the best and hope that your financial situation takes a 180 and you get back out some day. What is the delta going to do without you?

Sorry to read the news.

However, it leads to a great revelation...I did not know we could remain on boatered if we sell the boat. The main reason I keep the money pit is so I can chime in here. Man, I coulda saved alot of dough!!

Best of luck in your new adventure.

All right you guys!!!! After reading your comments, I am sitting laughing and crying all at the same time!!!! That is difficult to do.....

The great thing is that ALL of you know exactly how I am feeling. Most people just do not understand how we boaters feel about our boats and our special attachment to the water. Many of my friends/family think I am crazy. Well, I guess I am---crazy about boating in the Delta!!!!

I'm glad that I didn't have to sell my boat to a stranger who probably would not maintain her as I would approve. I'm happy she will be staying in the family. Doug will do right by her I am sure. And I'm glad I won't be running into her unless I am visiting my son in Nome!

So life goes on and I am sure I will have new and interesting adventures in my life. The closing of one door is often the opening another, they say.

How about a trip over to Riverboat for a so-long outing? You can tie up right here in a covered slip for free.

I'm so disappointed that things didn't work out Saturday eve to meet up with you! I was so looking forward to hopping over there and enjoying a good meal at Spindrift......

Maybe someday I'll take a rain check on that boat ride! LOL Thanks, friend.

Charlie worked his little A$$ off in spite of the heat. What a trooper! He just has to remember to keep his fluid and food intake up as he works. Sometimes we actually sat in my car with the air conditioner running just to get a break from that friggin heat.

Thank goodness the boat towing was without incident! And Charlie's new van is the perfect rig for that kind of job!!!! I'm really impressed with what he got and how well he handled that big boat with it. He parked it on a dime in his driveway. He barely had room for the boat and trailer between his house and the fence. Amazing to watch him gently back it in there and never touched a thing!

Me, too, Liz. You had quite a day on Saturday. Glad both you and Charlie survived the heat. It was great seeing AbsoLoot at Spindrift. Had a nice dinner there. The Happy Harbor $20 Rib Eye and Lobster Tail on Friday night was top shelf!

A day on the water and a dinner on the delta would be great whenever you're in the area. My cabin door is always open to you!!

I like the new signature, but I think your homeport will always be the CA Delta!!

Ok. I fixed it.....I guess I've forgotten how to load an new Avatar.......

Opps. Al I did that, but my picture still doesn't show. Something is wrong with it. oh well.

Bruce, this was when Charlie really started feeling awful but was still trying to work. He had to sit down because he was fading fast. He probably was having trouble with that tool!!!! Poor guy. He got much worse after that!

Didn't notice it before. It must be over 100* and I'm not sweating. I'm completely dehydrated by then and I can't think.

I'm trying to put the vent plug back in a grease gun with grease pouring out. Musta taken me 15 minutes.

Liz,
custom avatars aren't working anymore. Tried to put another pix of my doggies up. Same with photo album.
