After having just returned from a 9 day cruise with my family of 6 in our 28ft express, my thoughts have turned to a much larger boat.

One under consideration is the circa 2000 40 ft sedan bridge. I like the sedan bridge layout in general and this one seems to have the appeal of lots of supply, price right (200k range), and sleeps 6 comfortably.

I am interested to hear Sea Ray owners about what the reputation of the particular boat might be.

Of particular interest is the ride of this boat in the constant 2-4ft chop/slop that is common here where I boat.

Thanks,

Great boat if you like a Bridge style helm. I would definatley look for one with the Diesel engines. Been on the gas and its slow. I know someone in MD who has one for sale with the Cummings Diesel package and low hours. E-mail or call me if you want to see pictures.

We are starting to look at these too. Interested to see what folks have to say.

Hi Greg,

Before opting for the 420/three stateroom a few weeks ago, I did get on the 40, very nice boat from the limited time I was on it, had the two stateroom layout, not the optional three... Engine room may be a little tight for your liking...the upside is that it is a true inboard.

This boat does have the cored hull as well, which for us seasonal inland boaters is really a non issue. The size of the boat is very similar to the 420 Aft, with the same 14,3 beam...Powerboat guide says it weighs about 6000lbs less than the 42... Nice looking boat for sure...

Good luck!!

my buddy has one, he loves it. on any given day he will admit it does not have the ride of his old sport fish however it is way less spartan. since most of his cruising is limited to water with waves under 5' he is ok with the handling.

he does all of the service himself and never complains. the one thing i am aware of is to chage the inpeller on his westerbeke genny you have to be a small person. he simiply cut an access panel in the cockpit floor by the aft bench seat to fix the problem. now any grown person has easy access to the impeller.

i know the dinette on teh port side that is raised up, is almost always hot in the summer.

he has cats in his. i am certain i would never buy one with gas.
