Thoughts on tinting salon windows

I don't think it would look bad on your boat at all, heck I put medium tint glass into the cabin windows of my '55 Chris-Craft and it looks great.
The tint will lower temperature in the cabin a little. Flat surfaces inside will stay a little cooler. It will make sundown happen earlier in the boat and sunrise will come later. The best advantage is increased privacy during the day and less glare during the summer.
My replacement was tinted in the glass. I just don't like surface tint because around here it tends to fade, crack and look awful after several years.

Been thinking about just doing the side windows on ours, and removing the gold stripes, to maybe update the look a little more, but I'm a little hesitant if the tint will start to peel and cloud after winter storage. The stuff is no fun to take off after doing this on an old car a few years ago.
I definately have decided not to do the front windows, because if it fails, it would be a big hassle to get off, with the angles and curves and all, and that we will usually have the outside privacy shade/screen on anyway.

Yzer, funny you should bring that up, I was just thinking about a slip neighbor do that on his express, looks great during the day, but he is often out at night!!!! Have not been aboard to see how distorted things are during the day, but still, not a good move in my opinion...
Thanks fellows. I was having the windows tinted on my wife's car this morning and asked the guys if they did custom graphics (I am having the hull sanded/polished hence the pinstriping redone on the boat) and they said yes. So long story short, they made an offer were they come down and do the striping and tint the windows for a very reasonable fee using vinyl for the stripes and commercial "house" tint for the windows, not the "cheap" car stuff. Any thoughts on % shade? The boat does not have a lower helm so visability is not an issue with inclement weather/nightime boating.
Sure! I replaced the glass window by window between 7-10 years ago and I'm afraid I don't remember the tint percentage. It's gray, but not as dark as the full gray tint on our SUV. In the pic below, the sliding windows appear darker at the ends because of sliding bronze screens. There are off-white curtains right behind some of the glass.
In this shot the lighting is different. On a bright day these windows appear to be much darker. The windshield up top is next to the helm station and is new, untinted glass.
Thanks for the feedback and yzer, that CC is a beaut. The tint certainly does not take anything away from your boat. In fact, I think I have seen that picture before. The fact that I didn't pay attention and realize the windows were tinted is the "look" I'm looking looking for.

I am going to Tint my salon windows this winter too. I have found the sun, even despite mesh covers, tends to fade my new interior. Since it's the salon, no big deal relative to helm visibility. And I think the look will be COOL as well as feel COOLER. No doubt I will enjoy the privacy factor too...

My center sliding side windows were not tinted in my salon the plexiglass on either side was already dark and neither was the rear full sized glass sliding door. I went with limo 5% tint. The boat now looks modern and it helps the AC unit cool in a big way. It also protects the interior from fading. This was one of the least expensive upgrades with excellent results that I have done to the boat.
