Its been a difficult year getting the boat launched. Thought I had all the gremlins out but when we tried to launch today the throttle/shift control decided to spit out broken plastic pieces so now the control handle does not engage with anything inside the control box. Limp Throttle Syndrome. Problem is, its a 1988 vintage Quicksilver flush mount control box with till/trim and its no longer available (3.7L with an Alpha Gen 1). Tried researching for a suitable replacement and all the dozens of types gave me a headache. below is a photo of the same one I have. Any help identifying a replacement would be hugely appreciated.

All shift/throttle work the same. Just get a side mount and stick it up there. run the trim wires to the dash and put in a spring loaded toggle switch. I've been bypassing the merc cra*p for 20 years...and not just the trim system.

Manufacturers design the cheapest way to make things work. Why try to copy their sh*t.

Thanks Charlie. I assume, then, that the compatability with my existing shift cables wouldn't be an issue?

Yes, Sandy, that's it. I saw that when I was searching today. The guy wants $40 shipping. He's nuts.

Looks like I found an exact replacement locally. $100. We'll see if it's the real deal later this afternoon. Fingers crossed.

Sorry I'm late Mike. Glad you found one.

As far as cables go, The cables length you have lets you know where you can mount. The anchor point on the throttle/shift are all the same. Don't have to move cables any further than to slide out of shifter. Gonna be greasy, though.

Charlie,
Well, that didn't go as planned. The one I got locally was for a side mount, not a flush mount, so, while everything behind the bolster the handle didn't because it needs to allow for the thickness of that wall. Different handle design completely and the teeth in my handle are shot so I can't use it. Of course, I didn't figure this out until all the other very greasy work was finished. So I called Uflex and got the correct part number for the right Merc unit. Local marine supply outfit wanted $479 for it. Found it on Amazon for $215. Amazing. Should be here by the weekend.

I need a new boat.

A common ailment: "reliability induced two-footitis" :)

Hope you get situated soon. Tis time for fun in the sun!

Got the new box on Tuesday and spent most of yesterday working to install it (in the rain). After about 6 hours and several calls to a very helpful tech assistance department its about 90% finished. I won't go into all he issues I had except to say that most were related to my boat, not Uflex with the possible exception of the instructions being a bit lacking... no surprise there. The handle has Trim which I have working but no Tilt so I only need to wire in a switch for that and I'll be finished. I do have the switch so I need to find an appropriate location, cut the hole and wire it in. The wiring has been the easy part.

Getting really tired of working on old boats. We moved from a 15 year old 32' Carver to a 10 year old 37' Silverton and now a 19' Wellcraft that's approaching 29 years old. I'm staring at my 67th birthday in September....I think its time to go NEW with a WARRENTY!
