I'm great with inboards, but no longer live near the water, so have a small fishing boat with an outboard. Runs reasonably well most of the time. But have a stupid question.

How does the timing advance itself with the throttle. I have never paid attention to it cause I dont run with the cowling off. I do know it doesnt move freely. Kinda stiff. I do know that max timing has a set screw, but this is not the way it moves up and back when giving it gas. (doesnt seem to want to move back easily, either.)

Mine seems to have a mind of its own right now. What could have gone wrong??

I feel like mine is sticking and in some other way only working some of the time CORRECTLY.

I have the book but there is no mention of anything but the stop screw. Does this require lubication, taking apart and cleaning or what?? Is there a spring broken/missing somewhere?

Tell me what it is and sell me the cure?
