Since it's been 16 years, 1 year being a 'snoop' before registering, Can anyone ask questions about their boat problems or do you have to register.

'BE' used to be THE place to get help. Why aren't there more boaters asking.

I believe to start a thread or post you must be registered.

Me, I think the social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and such have taken a huge toll on forums of all sorts.

There's another boating forum I belong to that you have to register to be able to post. It is WAY MORE active than BE. Anytime I log in here, often ther are only 5-10 members logged in and maybe 50-70 guests. The other forum rarely has less than 100 members logged in, usually many more and 500-1000 guests.
I hate to say this as I've been an RO for many years, but BE is definitely on a downhill slide.

Brand specific sites are active. Sea Ray, Boston Whaler, Bayliner, etc.....

The economy took its toll on all disposable income. Regardless of what DC and the talking heads are saying, the economy for Joe the Plumber is in the toilet. No pun intended.

There seems great interest in trawlers and diesel boats especially from those intending to do the loop. I'm on one site that continuously gets new member each week. many newbie boaters. Registration is required to post on that site, as on most. People joining often say they have been long term lurkers but joined because they have or will buy a boat. It seeems to me that there is still great interest in boating but it has moved to bigger boats.

I followed BE from yachting but didn't register right away because I was suspicious of web sites back then.

BE was primarily smaller gas boats in an era where DIY was popular and stuff less reliable than today.

I think I had to register before I could post. Not Anchored, just Registered

And, there's a mass exodus from I/O. They're either going OB or Diesel. And those OB's are Yammies.

I just don't understand the thought process that says you need a large trawler to do the loop. Harlan and his bride did it in their 28' Sea Ray.

"Large", can actually limit marinas in some areas.

I also dot understand the need for a trawler. Nobody knows what that really is and people would rather buy some old Taiwan boat with everything leaking and failing than a newer boat not named a trawler.
