I have built a new deck on my 31 Trojan and am getting ready to topcoat. As I have read that gelcoat and epoxy don't agree with each other gelcoat I need some advice on paint. I will be painting the new deck and cabin, window frames etc. and applying non-skid in several areas so compatibilty is important. The deck and gunwales have been done in epoxy encapsulated plywood and will be covered with an appropriate cloth and epoxy resin prior to painting.

Thanks in advance!

If I had a fiberglass boat I'd go with a first rate two part polyurethane like Awlgrip. I seen spectacular Awlgrip jobs done by the pros and it's a very long lasting paint. Like most paints, Awlgrip has a non-skid system available.

I use one part polyurethanes including Brightside and Easypoxy. Depending on how well these paints are applied they can look incredible. In my experience these paints need recoats sometime around 7-10 years down the road.

Good stuff is usually expensive and Awlgrip is no exception. But gosh, that stuff is good. If I ever get married again, I'm going to paint my next wife with that stuff. Then she should last 15 years, with normal cleaning.
