Toronto Marina / 1000 Islands Advice

bcat

thanks for the info--i heard alot of people at my place say 1000 islands was a heck of a trip so really looking forward to it.
starting in oswego and may try cape vincent next or go straight to clayton? is cv ok?

bcat and carv....i dont have my dingy with me but if some of the islands have docks and power, wouldnt mind a stay at those. do you know of any?

also looked at the waters on the Canadian side and looks like you got to pay attention. doesnt seem like you want to be taking too many shortcuts. for the most part are guys going any speed they want or since it seems very tight are there many no wakes etc.

i'm in pittsburgh and they got the pins in the greens and that is good news. maybe mid april going to take the shrink off and do some swap out with the radar-- going to have a no more raytheon 41xx and hello to furuno installation party and hope the sirius wx mod that is coming out in spring for furuno.

plus this new gadget i got from my company--gen 4 nvg and we make this IR illuminator that works like a spotlight for IR goggles.

Anybody boat at night? wondered what your tactics are?

unkle buck:
1) There are no Islands with hydro..
2) Night time boating ??...Night time is for drinking...I don't travel the St Lawrence at night..There are far too many Lakers on the river at night...
3) There are more speed limited areas on the Canadian side vs the American side, but the scenery is better on the Canadian side..You don't want to go fast anyways..If you go fast you miss all the beauty of the Islands and the surrounding areas..

carv, is your dvd got some guy palying the guitar, a little too much on him, had some stuff about these shore dinners. are these dinners common even now....any islands where you can go to these and buy a shore dinner?

My DVD is put out by "Boats and Places Magazine" It is not a homemade DVD...I don't remember a guy playing the guitar on it..
I never heard of a shore lunch on any Islands...

2) There is not too much further east of Brockville thats worth seeing.

Humph! :o( Johnstown elitist!

*hehehe*

The local fishing guides from Clayton and Alex Bay do shore lunches during the day of fishing. They have a spot on Grindstone Island near Canoe Point.

I saw the DVD you are talking about on our local PBS station. They have a series of cruises that they have done. It is called CRUISING AMERICA'S WATERWAYS and I believe the guitar guy is Jonathan ......

Hope this helps

Ray

Ray--right, i rented it from netflix and the dvd was pretty lame on the area. the one thing i did like was the shore dinner thing and wondered if there were some islands that had this to offer to the paying public.

I don't think we are talking about the same DVD, but you have a good trip anyways...By the sounds of the trip you are looking for you are best to stay in the American channel and give her full throtle so you are on plane..

John
I'll ask around and see if it is possible to just do the shore dinner thing.
I hope you have wide open veins for this experience.

John

Try 1000islandsfishing.com. This is the web site for Richie Clark who is one of the best guides in Clayton. He may be able to help with a shore dinner or put you in contact with the right person.

Thanks Ray.

Re: Shore Lunches/Dinners

There's a guide that I heard of who runs "In Pursuit" Charters who does meals at shore. I believe he's also the head chef in the summers at one of Alex Bay's best places to eat "The Bonnie Rec Center"?

Does anybody know exactly what these shore dinners are or what they include? For instance, if you asked about a New England clambake, you'd get the lobster/clams/corn/blah blah.
