Most of the info I've read speaks to stripping old bottom paint. But I've got a good coat on now that just needs a touch up. Some say to only wet sand with 80 grit by hand. Anybody have information on how to do the best touchup?

My Carver has the factory (type) ablative paint....I have had great success in touching up worn areas by pressure washing, a very light sanding of the affected areas and re-application of the ablative paint.....in addition I do this to the waterline each season....

It really depends on the type of paint you are using. Some will work touching up right over the top with a good power wash and no sanding. Some require the sanding. The one thing to read up on is some paints will not work over the top of others. I am a fan of Interlux's MicronCSC. It is a multi-seasonal paint and just a good power washing and you can paint over the top. Not the cheapest paint by any means, but easy to maintain and works well.

Interlux has a good chart on what you need to do for each paint brand of theirs, i.e. sand, no sand etc. and which paints can be laid on top of others if you are switching.

I had someone sand and paint the bottom last year to get a good base on. Didn't see the need to climb around on my back sanding and breathing in the dust. :) This year (and going forward) I can just touch up the paint and I am ready to go, no sanding.

I am sure there are other brands of paint that work well, I just happen to notice several using this one and like the ease of maintenance.
