A man who offers whale sightseeing tours off northern Cape Breton has been fined $10,000 for overloading his boat.
Wesley Timmons Jr., of Pleasant Bay, pleaded guilty in provincial court to five charges under the Canada Shipping Act, including overloading a passenger vessel and operating the boat without a safety certificate.
Timmons was charged in February after Transport Canada inspectors saw 29 people board his boat on Aug. 11, 2005. The Highland Dancer was certified to carry up to 20 passengers.
