Quick question for the Bay -

If I'm towing the jetski behind my boat with the jetski unmanned, do I need to have someone on my boat acting as a spotter? I end up going out alone a lot, this is why I ask.

THanks!

No, but it would certainly be a good idea. Not that you need a "spotter" but to have someone on board to make sure the jetski is ok while towing and to make sure the lines don't get caught in your props when you anchor would help.

PS check into a tow rope that floats..

Ok, thanks Walt, that's what I thought. I'd certainly prefer a spotter, but I often fly solo. Thanks again.

Doesn't seem like it'd make much sense to be going out solo AND towing a jetski. There's just too much likely to go wrong. Lines fray, knots work loose, the towed vehicle gets swamped, bad weather pops up, wakes from other vessels, etc. It'd be one thing to do it one time out of sudden need, but to plan on doing it regularly? No way.

I agree with Bill. If you're alone, take out the jetski and leave the big boat home. End of discussion.

You'll find some good info about towing in this thread: http://www.boated.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=103806

You guys crack me up! I have been out all weekend every weekend all summer alone for the most part with a dinghy in tow. I wouldn't be out exploring, simply shooting across the bay. shouldn't be a big deal just more of a pain. If I had to I could ditch the ski with an anchor, anchor the boat then come back to the ski with the dinghy. I'll try it this weekend, maybe I'm nuts? I bought a good floating bridle. Thanks for the link Rob!
