My last trip to the beach after I put the admirals boat in the water I had a bunk failure where the lag bolts rusted in the wood and pulled out on one bunk. The other bunk still seems solid and due to weather and parts on hand I just made a new bunk for the failed side and then hauled the boat back out. Next trip down I'll fix the other side. Saltwater is a pain even if you always wash things down. Anyway, me being me, I decided to order all new bunk mount hardware and replace everything. Later I got to thinking and said, "Self, why not just fix the other side and then add a second set of bunks with all new stuff? Even though this is a small Whaler and two bunks carry it fine I'm thinking 4 will be that much better. Any negatives y'all see to my doing this?

I imagine it would perhaps be a bit harder to line the boat up on four bunks when hauling out? Although i suppose that depends on the shape of the hull, and the position of the extra bunks.

I hope not. My bigger boats always had more than 2 bunks. In this case I'm thinking I'll add the two news one closer to the keel which I hope gives better support and might even help with aligning the boat on center as I drive it onto the trailer.

I don't see any down side to adding the bunks and even though it's a small hull the additional support is a good thing.. Well, except you'll now have 4 sets of bolts to rust and carpet to wear out. :)

There is that!
Just finished putting on the new carpet, now to find time to head down to the beach and install new bunks.
