Wow, I was updating my web blog about our recent Florida trip, and recalled we passed by the Aegis cruiser Leyte Gulf in Port Everglades, one impressive ship!

So, not knowing much about the Leyte Gulf fleet action, I did a web search and discovered this awesome description of the incredible sea battle. In short, during the Samar phase, tough yankee seaman battled the might of the Japanese navy in lightly armored ships and with poorly equipped aircraft with such ferocity, the Japanese battleships turned tail and ran ----when they could have easily sunk the bulk of this lightweight American fleet.

This might make your eyes mist up, it sure did to me, thinking of our navy's largely forgotten heroism. Here is the link:
