I can't seem to get my Voyager to level out & I'm not sure my trim tabs are doing their job. I know where the control buttons are on the inside helm, but they don't seem to make a difference. Is it possible these may be fuse protected? Any help or advice here would really be appreciated.

Generally there is a circuit breaker for the pump system. If they are Bennett, and use the typical 2 button switches, if you depress one switch up and the other switch down at the same time, you will blow the fuse/breaker.

There will be a hydraulic pump for the trim tabs located somewhere near or on the transom. With the boat sitting in the slip, and the engines off (so you can hear the pump), have an assistant at the bridge attempt to raise or lower the tabs, and see if you can hear the pump.

Great bunch of info, THANKS! That's why this site is so good.

Also, would that breaker/fuse be in the normal panels or near the hydraulic pump?

Carver puts a trim tabs breaker on the main panel

Hello again,
OK, I've checked in-line fuse, fine. The HPU runs when I push the trim buttons (I have the 'racing style 4-button, flush mount type). Fluid, fine. Problem: I can't tell if the tabs are moving w/o either being in motion or using scuba gear. It's tough doing this alone, but I know some mechanic would love to sink his teeth in me.... Any more insight? THANKS!

It takes about 20 seconds for the tabs to go from full up to full down. Try setting them full up, use a stick and see if you can "feel" the tab position, then go full down, and use the stick to see if if feels as if they have moved.

Or an easier way is to take the boat out, run both tabs down for 10 to 20 seconds, then run both tabs up for 20 seconds. If they are working, you should notice the bow rise and fall with the tabs.

if you can reach the tabs hold a boat pole against them while operating the switch

Again, thanks!

Are they located at the very corners aft starboard & port?

Yes.

These are the tabs on my Carver 325. The first owner didn't like the old ones, so he put on really huge tabs. Most tabs are about half the length of mine, starting at the outside edges of the hull and maybe half-way in on each side.

(for you salt-water guys, the copper-clad bottom paint is VC-17)
