Trojan 440 Express questions

Hey folks, the search continues for the next boat. The Trojan 440 Express has been on my radar screen. I know Hogan just got one. At any rate, after scrolling thru past posts I saw a long one when Starry got his. I also read the reviews including the Pascoe review, wow, he trashed it. I know, lot's of people disagree with his reviews so it's not the be all/end all.

But Pascoes review was on a '96, which was the first year of production. But '96's are the only ones even close to my price range. It sounds like improvements were made in later years. For those that know this boat, would you even consider a '96 on the assumption that many things would have been corrected/resolved by past owners? Or are later models really the only way to go (which would eliminate it for me on price)?
 
AudreyII has a '96. I was on it this weekend and it looked nice. I'm sure he'll chime in.

I needed the 3rd cabin, which they didn't make in '96.
 
Hogan, thanks. I like the 3rd cabin as well but it's not mandatory. But I'm glad to hear that's the reason you went for a later year. Look forward to audreyII chiming in.
 
Sorry just got home and noticed to thread. Yes I have a 96' and yes I read the review before I bought the boat it did concern me but I looked closely at the things he pointed out and think he was way off base I know of no major changes to the boat from year to year in fact several thing that were change in 98' returned in 2000' again most changes were minor. This past weekend I rafted up with Hogan and Starry it was interesting to look at the differences between the models. I have two staterooms I made a filler for the couch to serve as the third stateroom I like having the larger open salon but I was impressed with the layout of Hagan's third stateroom lost very little space and gained a very usable room not just storage space like some. I'm very happy with my boat but for the right price I would consider selling (just Kidding). I will say this if you are basing the year on price alone make sure you take a good look at these boats because not all 96' are inexpensive it may be based on condition more than anything. I'll put my boat next to any year Trojan and I challenge someone unfamiliar with the models to tell the difference. Oh yah I just did that. I would not hesitate to buy 96' if you can find a well maintained and updated boat. I have seen a couple of low priced boats out there and from the pictures they look clean. Thanks I appreciate the feedback. We've probably looked at the same boats. Honestly, this boat is probably a little too big for me. But it is on the list. In the end I'm coming up with a short list of models, 3-4, and it's going to come down to price. Whatever I can get a really good deal on. But it's nice to know that '96 is not the train wreck Pascoe made it out to be. It sure is a sharp looking boat.
 
Pascoe makes many boats sound lilke a train wreck, which are not. I believe he may just be a bitter old man that only likes the high dollar watercraft.
 
I would not eliminate the 1996 model from your radar. If you are interested in it, take a look at some to get an idea of what it looks like hands on.

I think for the most part all of our boats will be in the water for the next couple of weeks. Dave and I are located in the same marina. Mike/Hogan is located 1/2 mile from us in the next marina.

Do I smell a road trip? LOL[:-eyebrows]
