Trojan 440 Upgrades, Fixes and Ideas

I'm having the slide-out cushion on the aft deck redone. I have to get my radar arch fixed so that it tilts aftward and drains rather than pooling up on the arch and leaking onto the couch and counter.

Mike who is doing the cushion? I'm hoping to get another year or two but I want to redo all of the cushions and the top I just don't have a spare 10K at this time.

Are you planning on adding a spacer type product in there to get it to tilt?

Yes, that is exactly how I'm thinking of doing it.

Interesting. Id love to see a few pics of the before and afters...

Mike the top of the arch bolts on have you tried to loosen the nuts to see if you can shim it?

I don't understand how that is going to solve the problem but will be watching for the outcome none the less. My eventual solution will be to eliminate the arch altogether and either build a canvas covered aluminum frame or get a hard top.

The water will drain off the back of the arch instead of pooling on the front and seeping in around the sides of the canvas.

I love the look of the arch it was one of the things that attracted me to the boat in the first place. I not sure how tilting the wing is going to make much of a difference but then I have a very different canvas and my canvas goes under it so by having it run back makes it run down my canvas. What I don't like is the way it wraps around the arch it's loose so rain can come in near the same spot you have an issue with. I like my set up and will replace it with something similar but with some kind of elastic section that will hug the arch.

I wouldn't replace the whole arch, just the cross over.

Mine is attached under the arch fore and aft. I have been trying to come up with ways to stop the leaks including attaching the canvas on top in the front. With the wing tips though I just do not see ever fixing that entry point.

I don't like the canvas under the arch. You lose too much head room and it renders the arch lights useless.

Being short I don't have an issue with the headroom:) As for the lights I usually remove the entire rear section when I'm hanging out so it's not in the way of the lights. The only time it's an issue is in the rain and or cold. I like the open feeling of the cockpit by adding the camper top I would loose that. This is why they make so many different boats everybody likes different things!

It seem like there was more going on on this thread then in the NY Boat show today! [:-spin]
just came back with Bill (Victoria Secret). i think the water goes in the arch top from the radar base. the drain holes i have on both sides of the arch don't really get water in them as they are slightly higher then the arch frame because of the through hull drain. tilting the arch forward or backwards might help. i also have the same problem of leaking water on the wet bar counter top and the port side couch, very annoying. i hope to get to it on before the season.

I think water gets into the arch through the light bar, not the radar mount.

When I took mine off this fall to put the cover on, a bunch of water came out of it.

Not in mine. do you take of the light bar for the shrink wrap?
in regards to the camper the first thing we did when we bought the boat last year was install the full camper, while we enjoy the sun we need the shade and the kids safety as well.

on another note why can i subscribe to one topic/thread but not to another?

Where mine attaches is at the edge underneath. It does not obstruct the lights or the speakers. Water gets in on mine at the gap on each side both fore and aft where it attaches. You can barely see it in this image and when I get to the boat next time I will take a better one, but it is here the arch wings are.
