Hey all. I recently acquired a 14' Starcraft aluminum boat for the lake upstate. Went and ordered a Minn Kota 55lb thrust motor and after seeing how big and heavy the boat is i am wondering if this is enough motor? Also am looking at batteries, I am thinking i want a Lithium ion for the weight savings, are these worth the extra money? Specifically looking at the Dakota Lithium 54 amp hour. I know there are lots of variables but, will this motor/battery combo work well for this boat? Thanks.

Too subjective a question for me. How big is the lake. How much running of the motor do you to do, ie type of fishing. How much speed are you wanting? Wind can be a problem if you don’t have enough thrust. Somewhere online I saw a thurst/hp conversion table. Seems like that might give you a good starting point. I’m sure there is a minimum hp recommend for the boat.
Edit:

I’m thinking for just light and close to dock work you should be good. You might consider a small gas engine if you need to run very far, maybe something in the 7.5hp range. Having two motors is not a bad thing.😊

Thanks guys, its a small lake and gas is not allowed. this will mostly be used to fishing so, getting to a spot then floating/drifting. according to the chart attached i should be good. Will let you all know when i get it set up.
