Hi all, I'm planning to go look at the 2002 Trophy 2302 with Merc 200 efi saltwater series. This thing is all new to me. Does it has enough power? how is the hull?....Please educate me on this one, good, bad and in between. This mainly will be use for saltwater fishing and some hanging around the lake. Thanks.

Super Clean 23' Walkaround!! 200 hp Merc

This boat has been very well maintained!! Pride of ownership really shows! Powered with a Mercury 200 HP EFI motor, has electronics and a huge baitwell! HARDTOP WITH ENCLOSURE CANVAS!! Lots of room to fish! Has a super clean cuddy area with lots of space with sink and pumpout potty,VHF radio, Lowrance Fish Finder, GPS! Price does not include trailer.

I had a 2000 Trophy Pro 2509 w/ twin Merc SW 150's, Certainly enough power, and boat had more than enough power at top end. Note I had a W/A but w/ a hard top, so it was a heavy boat. ( I also normally carried a lot of "extras". It really was "full" ) Hull design was the top end limiting factor, not power.

200 HP should be close to ideal ( imho )

I found that the Trophy hulls were fairly "critical". That is, they seem to have a couple of "preferred" speeds where they performed quite nicely, but only "good" at other speeds. You would want trim tabs... ( I had them and found them to be more mandatory than optional )

While the "fit and finish" were not what I would call top of the line, Those parts that needed to be substantial were just fine. A nice balance for the budget.

For what it's worth, while i meticulously maintined my boat, I also drove it in heavier seas probably harder than the designers expected. The boat handled it well. Boat was certainly cpable of taking rougher waters than I was.

Had it till Katrina ate it...

I had a 1996 Trophy 2703. (25 ft boat) It was powered by a pair of Merc 150's. Plenty of power. A couple of slips down was the same boat with a single 225. The owner said the 225 was good.

I'm a big fan of Trophy boats. Very well made and laid out from my experience.

I am NOT a big fan of Merc 2 Strokes, also from my experience.

Mercury 200 HP EFI motor is four stroke motor right?. I know nothing about outboard motor. Will drop by and take a closer look on Sat. Pics looks nice and clean in and out but I like to see it.

I thought the 200 EFI was a 2 stroke.

We had 2 Trophy 2002 W/A and loved both of them.

Is it a Trophy/Trophy or Bayliner/Trophy company ?.

"Trophy is a part of the giant Brunswick Corporation, and a member of the Brunswick Boat Group, the acknowledged leader in recreational boating. Brunswick is one of the oldest U.S. corporations, with a proven record of stability and financial strength that extends to each of its divisions.

Brunswick is the global leader in boating, with lines that include Sea Ray, Bayliner and Maxum pleasure boats; Baja high-performance boats; Boston Whaler and Trophy fishing boats; Princecraft deck and pontoon boats; Hatteras and Meridian yachts; and Sealine sport cruisers and yachts.

What ever your views on the line of boats branded "Bayliner", "Trophy" has operated as a Brand separate from the Bayliner Brand. Trophy was/is aimed at a mid-budget saltwater coastal market and did it quite nicely. There are better, more expensive boats; there are cheaper, flimsier boats, but every Trophy that I have seen has been up to the task and was a good affordable boat.

And Yes, Brunswick -> Bayliner Boat Group -> Trophy are all related at the corporate level. But one should always use caution when making broad statements about brands/models in boats without having close personal information. IMHO, Trophy is a very nice boat that won't require a 30 yr mortgage to operate.

Thanks Bill, I don't have problem with any makes model boats out there, don't really care if it's SeaRay or Bayliner or whatever may be, just wanna learn a little more about the Trophys so I can ask them when I go look at it. Someone told me it's Bay/Trophys and others said it's Tro/Trophys, it's really doesn't matter to me. On the other hand, the two strokes motor makes me think though as I know nothing about the outboard motors.

Bill,
They have been busy!
