TV Antenna

Rommer, I have the globex with gain control (or is it called amplifier) with a SD TV. It absolutely stinks.

As you know, I'm right across the river from you near Croton Point. Based on your local experience, do you think if I get a HDTV it'll be much better? I was thinking of upgrading to LCD anyway to gain some extra storage space from where the 20" fat tube is!

How do you tune these TVs (e.g. Channel 4HD is not Channel 4)? For example, what's the frequency of Channel 4 or PBS?

I keep debating a dish on the pole just to get "some" channels. Could it be the answer was right under my nose the whole time?
 
The Glomex works great for Digital and sucks for Analog. The Glomex is a loop - so it is designed more for the UHF band.

Each TV tunes a bit differently so I can't really answer that question. My friend is over at Stony Point and he gets great reception with his setup. IIRC he gets all the HD channels except for NBC for some reason. He used to just get snowy pictures on his SD set so he's happy with what he gets. He posts in HRCC as Winters Remedy so you can email him via the forum to get the info straight from the horses mouth so to speak.
 
So exactly how do i tell my POS TV to tune to a subchannel... I feel like that commercial for the ford SYNC.... SUBCHANNEL 4!!!!!

Are you using an over the air antenna and an HD TV Rob?

If so, find the menu via the remote. Look for the tuner section and see if you have anything like autosearch or autoprogram. The TV will search all analog and digital frequencies and find whatever you can receive in your area.

(As much as I like busting chops this stuff is on the level.)
 
Okay, now I'm confused.
I have nothing on my boat right now, but would like to be able to watch the basic channels CBS, NBC, ABC, and whatever else I can get so that I can at least keep up with the news when I sleep on my Boat.
I am looking at buying a 19" LCD HDTV that has a built in DVD player. The size is perfect, the price is right, and the built in DVD player serves the purpose.
My question is; what would be the best basic Antenna to buy so that I can watch some regular TV programing?
I don't want to spend a ton of money on it, and I don't want some huge ugly thing getting in the way on my relatively small boat.
I'm not interested in Satellite TV on my 30 footer. I can sit in my Family Room at home and watch what I need to on a 50" HD Plasma from the comfort of a big couch. I just want to be able to catch up on the morning news over coffee when I sleep on the boat.
Any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick responses. Rommer, It appears that an LCD TV will allow me to access the digital channels, but is there any particular antenna that performs better than another. Would it need an amplifier for the further distance locations like watch hill? From the posts it seems like this will work which is encouraging just need to find out the proper hardware setup for this. Thanks
 
I switched over to satellite a few years ago so I haven't kept up on recent boat antenna models but I liked the Shakesphere 25 something that Boatfix sells when I used over the air antennas.

so here's a question i have a 32" lcd tv ... don't believe it's hd, let's say it's not. What happens if i hook up an hd atennna /tuner thingy to it?
