Has anyone installed underwater light on their boat. I understand that LED lights draw less and last longer then others. Thinking of installing apair of them on the transom of a 04' 340 for the kids to watch the fish and aid in nighttime swims.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Rob,
email me the guy that did yours and the cost, might as well do it while the boat is on the hard.

Walter, it's cheaper if you get it done while the boat is in the water

Chop,

First and foremost they have to be bright, 150 watt HID is best.
On your 340 you need only one.

I had a Deepsea 150 W HID on my 04 360, and it was awesome.
It was the brightest in the Marina.
They are expensive but you get what you pay for.
It is my opinion that if I'm drilling a hole in my hull I'm going to plug it with the most expensive stuff I can find.
Think about it, is this where you want to get a 'deal'?

However with the HID's they are 110 volt, so you have to be on shore power or use the generator.
Without spending some serious dollars you will not get the brightness with a 12v LED.

I'm not too impressed with hanging extra stuff on my trim tabs, although I like Tom(?) Hurley having met him several times.

Now I am consdiering using the Ocean LED for the new boat and as it is wider I will go with two.
I may even use the surface mount as I'm told they are as bright as the through hulls.

Jim,
I agree that the lights should be bright. I have no problem putting two or more LED's in the transom if they draw less but give the same effect as the HID's that require 110-220 volts but are brighter. I don't want to have to run the genset or be at the dock to use them.
I also like the fact that the LEDS don't require relamping and will last for approximatly 50,000 hours(Deepsea estimate).
I also am not that crazy about mounting anything to my tabs.
I will look into the Ocean brand, what other light manufactures rate hi on the list?

Also, what color light is recommended for the North/East boating area?

Thanks,

I bought mine from http://www.abysslite.com however, I would not recommend them. I had one get water in it then they replacement turned yellow, one year later they still will not even return my emails. Bad customer service! BTW these were the LED version.
