I pulled into the Pines last Friday to grab a cup of coffee from the Pines Pantry.

As I pulled into the Pines harbor, the harbor master called me on the VHF and asked if I needed any assistance. I replied no, that I was going to grab a cup of coffee from the pantry and get back underway. He replied that I can tie up on the bulkhead next to the pantry.

As I was tying up he came over and said $25.00 for 4 hours and started to write up a receipt. I replied that I was only there for a moment to grab a cup of coffee. He then replied again $25.00 for 4 hours.

I've been going in there for the past 8 years on and off and had never been asked to pay there or at any other harbor or marina on the Great South Bay.

I would of gotten into it with him but I did not want a confrontation at 0830. I got underway and went to Davis Park for my coffee.

Anybody know this guy Anthony at the pines? What a unfriendly Harbor Master.

I would of paid just this once to have a story about a $27 cup of coffee while boating and enjoyed every sip.

Maybe you should have said can’t do the $25… But could you be a swweetie and run and get me a cup of Java and maybe a shot of essspresso with a twissst of lemone….. [:-eyebrows]

What a dick :(

Next time pull in, call the pantry on your cell and ask them to bring the coffee to the dock, then give the lad that brings you the coffee a nice tip, that will piss of the harbor master.

Adam,
I grew up boating at the pines with my parents... Brings back memories... Curious how the place has changed.... since iwas a kid.

Spent atleast 10 years of my summers there....

Just wanted to follow up with an update. My manager spoke with the owner / manager of the Pines marina and was told that there was a misunderstanding with the harbor master and that we can tie up at no cost for as long as we like. The harbor master also apologized and felt embarrassed for his actions. Apology was accepted and all is good!

Adam,
Thats cool, maybe he was having a bad day. Where are the Pines?

Walter

The Pines is the next community east of Cherry Grove...............you should know that Walter :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............. If you can tie up there for as long as you"d like then why was he attempting to charge you in the first place? What was the misunderstanding?

I work for SeaTow so when I tie up somewhere it's usually for only a short time to grab a cup of coffee, lunch or just a breather. The misunderstanding is that SeaTow and the commercial and private marinas and boatyards tend to have a good working relationship.

Well it makes sense to treat the tow boat guys lousy, since when you're stuck out in the water they actually come and drag your butt to safety.
I try to malign firefighters too.
