Hi, I just picked up an '86 Four Winns with the 260 h.p Mercruiser. This is my first boat and haven't had much experience and I want to do some basic maintenance before the season starts. I can see how you change the oil but maybe somebody can tell me where the brake fluid reservoir is on this boat. Thanks.
 
Under the hull, you have to cut a 4" hole to get to it. Don't forget to check the turn signal controls as well.
 
Yes, proper turn signal fluid level is also important and often overlooked. :-)
 
Don't forget to change the air in the fenders, too!
 
Actually, you drain the oil from the large hole in the port side of the bottom of the boat. Just unscrew the cap and the oil drains into the bay. The fish love it. (It's April Fools Day!) Hy
 
If you guys would just use synthetic brake fluid, you wouldn't have to change it as often.

Oh, and you don't need to drill a hole to change the oil. If you just run it without the dipstick it will pump right out into your bilge. If you leave it long enough, and it tars over, it will seal any leaks you have, like fix-a-flat.

Then, top of with environmentally friendly synthetic, and you are good to go, just don't overfill those fenders, or the boat will feel out of balance.
 
This post should be in NBR since mariner36 brought up environmentally friendly which leads to global warming which leads to taxation and then next thing you know we are talking about politics of the tax and spend administration. LOL
