I hear pump coming on but toilet wont flush. I pumped out assuming that was problem but still nothing. I hear the pump come on. any advice what to check next?

Are you saying that the when you turn the system on the pump just keeps cycling, failing to build a vacuum?

If so; Does the bowl hold water? If the water stays in the bowl yet the pump keeps cycling then you have one of two things happening. Either a leak in a hose or a duckbill gone bad. Most likely the later.

If the bowl is not holding the water than the seal on the bowl is leaking. You might try scrubbing it really good. Every so often mine will get toilet paper in it and I have to get in there with the scrubber really good and work the valve a few times.

changed duck bills, still no go. hooked 12v source up to pump to confirm pump is working and it did pump, but wont pull from toilet. is there a diaphragm in the pump that could be bad, what next?

You could have blockage in the line. Did a woman put a "feminine product" in the bowl and flush it? Or someone could have flushed a wad of toilet paper and not flushed enough water to push it to the tank. It then dries out and turns into a solid blockage. Try using a snake to see if the line is blocked.

I don't think anyone has flushed anything. I pulled the pump and was going to bring it over to marine sanitation and have them check it out.. Maybe I'll have to get my hands on a snake too

If there was a blockage in the line between the head and the vac tank/pump it will build vaccum and the pump would stop

If the pump is as old as the boat, the bellows could be bad and leak. If there was waste in the pump it would spray out but if nothing was flushed there wouldn't be any spray

The pump doesn't pull out the waste. The waste is evacuated because the pump builds a vacuum.
It sounds like you need to troubleshoot the Vacuum pump or clear a potential clog between the head and the pump.
Did it work fine one day and stop working completely the next day? Or was this a slow process where it gradually lost the ability to empty the bowl?
Also make sure your holding tank vent line is clear.

Jus to to be sure

Pump runs and doesn't not stop
Water stays in the bowl
You ve changed the duckbills
When you press the pedal, nothing happens, water doesn't get sucked out and just sits under th ball valve

First check for vac leaks around the pump, if no vacuum builds at all, chances the leak is pretty bad and will be heard. If you don't hear any hissing then pull the pump again and check the duckbills. Make sure they are not installed facing the wrong way. If they re ok, I'd remove the pump bellow and check it.

Again, if there was a clog in the line between the head and the tank, the pump would build a vacuum and stop because the switch is located on the tank. Iif the he pump keeps going it means no vacuum is building in tank

broke down called seacoast solutions today. turned out the switch went bad. haven't been to the boat or seen his invoice yet but I'm told I'm running.

What switch?

Because that kind of doesn't make sense. You said the pump was working but not pulling a vacuum at the bowl. So that means the vacuum switch was turning the pump on.

Capt bill, I direct wired pump to battery to test pump. Not sure if that bypassed switch.

Yeah If the pump was running but not pulling a vaccum I don't see how the switch was bad...

To test the switch, all you have to do is undo the wire going to the pump at the vac switch and hold it to the next terminal on th switch which some from the power supply.

Or you can push the spring loaded rod in. That will turn the pump on.

The electrical part of the switch rarely fails it s usually the rod inside the tank that gets corroded

Not sure which part of it failed and was replaced but it's working again. Haven't seen requisite invoice yet
