VacuFlush Hammers

If it hammers I wonder if the connecting rod between the bellows and crank is shot. If you are going inside make sure all of the tolerances in the mechanism are good (and I have no idea how they should be checked).
 
I would try using Vinager to help clean out any Calcium build up in the VF system. As others have said try cleaning the bowl seal.
