can an electric head be converted to a vacuflush? What is lnvolved?

you can't convert an existing head to VF, you need a new VF head, and to install the vac pump/vac tank between the head and holding tank.

If you can do the job yourself, your probably looking at around $2K for all the parts

Well worth the conversion in my opinion. I just did it on my boat. It is a major project. I decided to replace all sanitation hoses and my holding tank. The boat never smelled better! You will find that your holding tank will take 3 to 4 times the number of flushes using the VacuFlush. I also replaced my macerator with a SeaLand discharge pump no more worries about burning the macerator pump by running it dry. Good luck go to the SeaLand site they have good documentation on what it will take for a complete conversion/installation. Regards Bill

I'm going to be a little nit-picky here. You can't CONVERT an electric toilet to a VacuFlush. But you can remove an existing toilet, either manual or electric, and replace it with a VacuFlush system.

Keep in mind that it doesn't only consist of the actual toilet pedestal that mounts in the head; it also requires a vacuum pump and vacuum tank that must be mounted below deck somewhere (between the toilet and the holding tank). Also, SeaLand requires that a VacuFlush system be installed by their people - or if you install it yourself, the installation must be inspected and OKayed by their people, or they won't extend warranty coverage on it.

The $2K figure for the parts is pretty close. Installation can run you about half that much more. I don't know about labor rates in the "heartland," but along both coasts a marine plumber gets in the neighborhood of $100/hr., sometimes more.

Vic, I agree it was not so much a conversion but a new installation which included removing all my old head components. My stuff is not under warranty anyway it was purchased off of E-Bay from a jobber who buys old stock from builders. I worked out the kinks and all seems well. I am happy with the lack of odors and while I was at it I installed a 45 gallon tank, tank monitor system and a key to shut off the discharge pump.

sorry for the type... is amazing how a T complete changes the meaning of a post...
