Looking for advice....

I have a 32 Montego. I know of someone that is selling a 32 Montego from a divorce. My cabinet doors are well worn with flaking edge banding, a broken piece of teak, and some generall wear from a good life on the water. They are not too bad, but enough to drive me nuts. The other Montego has flawless doors and drawer fronts. I think she would be welcome to a cash offer for me to swap the doors since she is just trying to dump the boat. I know i can probably do repairs on my own, but don't have time to source the materials and do the project.

My question is, what would a fair price be for this offer? I would be doing all of the work and the boat would still be sellable, just with slightly worn doors.

Thanks for any thoughts!

When you say she is just trying to dump the boat, what are we talking here $$ wise?

I'm a little more than curious myself...and is it a local boat?

I would guess around $20. If she is really desperate, maybe less.

It was a saltwater/brackish boat. I believe it is a '89 or '90. Only has the 350's and no genny. Interior is in nice shape though.

I will try to get a hold of her.

There's one on Craigslist for 16,500 (Cleveland)...may go look at that one...I believe it's in Marblehead.

Pulled the phone number up, its Marine City. I will drive by tomorrow when I am over there to see if I can tell anything.

I hate to see prices that low! I was hoping to get a different boat in a year or so!

I will contact the other person I know and see where she is at on dumping it.

We recently sold one for $9,500. It was a 1990. The boat needed a very good cleaning, carpet and canvas done but it was still a very good deal.

Wow, these are really low prices. Not that low up here, that's for sure.

Scott.

Ken,

I stopped by today to see if I could look at the one you found. No one around but it is in the lot. It is wrapped up tight so I couldn't see in. The pictures on the sheet for it show it has the blue interior and looks stock. Hull, below the wrap looks good. Didn't see any bottom issues. I would surely take a look at it! I know you were contemplating the 31 Montego also, but I will stand up for the 32. The head and forward berth privacy are worth it. Aside from being really really ass heavy, its a great model.

consider it this way. If you were purchasing your otherwise great boat or an identical boat with good cabinets how much more would you spend to not look at old beat up stuff?? Pay her that amount.
