I have a question that maybe Phil (towcap) can answer. What is the protocol or what is the norm for a vessel in difficulty to do when it is endangered. Most folks call the coasties and then get handed of to commericial companies that assist or tow. Does the Coast Guard only assist when life and limb are at stake? What if a boat is adrift without power or steering and entering commerical traffic areas. What about taking on water? What does the CG do and what do they not do and when should you call them and not vessel assist. Thanks
