I have a very small slit in one of my white seats. (Less then an inch.) It almost looks like someone hit it with a knife.

Question 1- Is there a really good do it yourself kit?

Question 2- Should I start a seperate thread on local repair companies after I screw it up or continue on this one??

If you can get to underside of damaged area; take some very aggressive vinyl tape like that which is used for non slip/skid. It won't be invisible but if under the cushion there is a small amount of vinyl; cut it off & dissolve it in MEK or THF & you have an adhesive same color as cushion. Then take a tooth pick and apply to slit on surface.

If it really bothers you I would call one of those places that does vinyl repairs for car lots. It's what they do.

Option #2 is take it to a place and have it recovered.

Option #3 try and minimize any further damage or water intrusion by repairing from the back side, may be visible, but stop water from getting in.

What are MEK and THF?

They are both solvents. I don't use THF, MEK,Methyl Ethyl Ketone used to be available from hardware stores or Home Depot. We use MEK maintaining light aircraft.

MEK = Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)
THF = Tetrahydrofuran

Both dissolve PVC (vinyl).

Hank if you find a fix short of replacing the cushion could you post it please? I have a similar situation my dogs nails put a small hole in one of my cushions.

Thanks!

I used 3M vinyl repair. It came out just OK from a color standpoint. Their white did not match perfectly but the tear is closed and sealed. I notice it but most people would not. They give you several colors and instructions on how to mix and match so I probably could have played with the white but as they say.....whatever.

Can that be bought at any marine store? I'll give it a shot.
