Can someone help me locate a web site where I can find and volvo "recall" type bulletins or anything identifying problem with their motors?

I have two 2005 5.7 OSI-D motors that are registered with Volvo and was curious if I missed any bulletins of probelms or recalls.

Have you tried the Volvo engine website? Crusader has all of its service bulletins and recalls online. Westerbeke does the same thing.

F.Y.I., my 2005 OSI's had a recall on the bellows and there was a known issue with one of trim rams. All were replaced under warranty.

I had no idea. My boat was in for the trim ram problem and my dealer called VP and they told them about the recall

You could try calling Volvo-Penta Action Services, supplying your engine model & ser# and asking about any bulletins:

1-877-747-3682

Volvo doesn't seem to have recall/bulletins online at their main site but do have links to spec. engines' owner's & parts manuals & maintenance schedules once you punch in model# or ser#.

Volvo does not seem to recall, but when service is performed, they take care of it. As of this date, the only recall for mine is a fuel dampner clip, and dealer called me to tell me. i did not receive any paperwork.
Am now in the process of replacing both bellows, gimball bearings, and u joints if water has entered thru the defective bellows.

Gsent- Was that a 6.1L engine the clip was replaced on? Just curious if it applied to other sizes as well.

I wish I knew about a recall. My bellows went and water go to the bearing and wiped out the housings. My season was cut short by 2 months last year thats to that.

Sandy,
Mine are 8.1's.not sure about smallblocks.

I talked to Volvo and they said that the dealers are informed of any recalls and they correct the problems when people come in for service. I then called my dealer and he said that Volvo informs the registered owners of recalls, usually before the dealer. When I inquired specifically about the bellows issues mentioned above, he said there had been a couple, but the issue was with the way Chaparral installed them and not with Volvo.

I have a Rinker. It is a Volvo defect on the clearances between the exhaust bellows and the gimbal bellow. When the exhaust bellows get hot they build up pressure and press on the gimbal boot causing the drive shaft to rub the boot away. This defect cost me 2 months and $800 in land towing to get my boat to someone who WOULD fix it. I am not happy with Volvo on this at all.

Rob, sorry to hear that. I am not happy about this either since I would have never known there was a problem if I had not taken my boat in for something else. I too, would have had a bad experience if the bellows were to fail.

Volvo re-designed the bellows. They look completely different, and have two big ears on them to pull it up over the outlet on the gimball housing. They even mark top and bottom, now. i have part numbers if anyone is interested.

I have a Chaparral 2004 Volvo 5.7 OSI. Mechanic mentioned that bellows looked "worn". So I had Volvo authorized service (dealer is not, but have service performed by Volvo authorized marina) replace bellows, to the tune of $600 =/-. Should this have been a Volvo recall? I'm not shy about asking, even after the fact.

Check with your Volvo dealer, but I'm told just OSI drives.

My wife and I own a Rinker 36 and we were just told this past weekend by our dealer that our bellows were being replaced on our OSI 8.1 stern drives. We were also told that because this was a "service bulletin" and not a recall the cost of the labor and materials for the replacement of the bellows was being paid but not the haul out charges. Go figure.

Interesting topic ,I have a 8.1 VP and last summer at 75 hours my gimble bearing and everything else blew, after 60 days and a lost summmer the housing was replace at VP expense. The authorize dealer told me it was about 10k.I am hoping for a better summer, but now it won't turn over, sounds like a starter problem.
