VOLVO TAMD74P EDC DIESEL ENGINES?

So Im looking to fill the void of being boatless

Even though the Market is crazy now I may have come across a possible needed fix.

Im looking at a 2001 Formula 41PC, I know the boat model very well as I owned one in 2004 when I joined BoaterEd, although it had Cummins

If you would have asked me then about Volvo diesels I would be so against them- however after having the 12ltr Volvos in my 53 for the last 3+years I know for the most part they can be strong long lasting engines .

So does anyone has real world experience with the TAMD74P EDC’s????

I don’t know if this helps but I have the TAMD75P EDC’s and they haven’t let me down yet. They are in a 2006 Regal 4460 so boat size is about the same. I did have to replace the exhaust elbows after port side started to drip and cause a little steam. Other than regular maintenance they’ve been great.

Had 480hp Volvo 74P’s in a 2002 Carver 466 for 8yrs and about 1200hrs. Strict maintenance adherence. Would call them flawless - never anything beyond the routine. They are an interesting engine, sort of hybrid as to electronics, borne during the transition to fully electronic (the 75P, I believe?).
Only problem I ever had was not engine per se, but the throttle EDC board failed on one side. Made for some interesting concerns with fluctuating rpm’s and a sudden jump into gear while in a lock before we came up with the actual problem/solution.
FWIW, I’d buy them again in a heartbeat. (As fond of those as my current Yanmar 440’s!)
Good luck!
