I am renovating an old Sunseeker and I'm puzzled by the wiring diagram for the 1993 Volvo 572 GM V8 engine in this boat. As I am sure you know, the choke on GM V8 uses a small electric heater to operate a bi-metallic coil, which in turn works the choke mechanism.
Now here's the problem: the Seloc manual says that the choke heater should be run only from the low voltage D+ terminal of the alternator because 12 volts will burn out the element. However, when I look at the wiring diagram, the ignition switch seems to put 12 volts across that circuit when the engine is running. The diagram I have is not 100% clear, but I can't see a) how the ignition switch stops the engine and b) how it avoids putting 12V across the choke heater, electronic ignition module and the coil.
If anybody understands this part of the circuit I would be very grateful to hear from you - I've been in radio and electronics for 25+ years and it baffles me!
