So I had a great 10 day trip planned from NJ up to Star Island. Turns out that we are not going to be able to make the trip. It seems that the folks will not refund out paid in full deposit because it is a holiday weekend (even thought they about 4 weeks notice).

IF anyone here is interested in using the slip drop me a line; it is currently paid for LOA 34'.

Nice, will they let you apply the deposit to other dates? I have heard where they will do that.

Most places will reapply deposits during normal weeks, but being a part of a holiday weekend, maybe all bets are off. In some cases it is difficult for people to reschedule a 10 day trip and then end up loosing some or all of their deposit. We are leaving for our big trip on 7/12-22, I would not have minded making Star Island a stop over. But already doing WHB or maybe Oaklands at Shinnecock before heading to Block Is, Essex Is, Fishers Is, and then back to WHB then home with empty pockets….

That is the exact reason why I hate making reservations that require deposits. This is such a scam. There is no doubt that they have a waiting list, so now they keep your money and rent the slip out to someone else.

When are we boaters going to stop putting up with this crap?

They did not offer to apply the days to another set of date ranges. It is interesting to me that we were scheduled to be there from the 5-8 and that is being considered a holiday. Oh well; I figured if anyone here could use the slip that would be great. Since we were traveling with 5 or six other boats worst case is that the slip will be used for someones dink.

IF they show up and there is not an empty slip; that is total BS. The funny thing is that part of the fee was $23/day for utilities. Of course that is not refundable either.
