Waste leaking from somewhere

About 2 weeks ago I stopped to get fuel and had the waste tank pumped out. First time back to the boat the other day there is a really foul odor through the engine compartment, forward bilge and cabin. It smelled like waste. Looking in the bilge its black probably from that blue tank treatment. same in the forward bilge. i inspected all the hoses and cant see any problems. Seacock for overboard discharge is closed as always.

I looked around the fittings on the waste tank I don't see anything leaking. I did not remove the tank yet or pull the head. Wondering if something happened during the pumpout.

I bought the boat last year and didn't have any issues until now. The guy I bought it off barely used the boat and when he did he never used the head. (Personal friend so I can confirm this).

I'm taking a guess before I pull that tank that the pumpout may have caused a split or small hole in the tank I cannot see, perhaps underneath. Anyone have other ideas I should look for while I start getting ready to pull the tank? Also, is there anything particular involved with pulled the head out?

Is it a vacuflush? If so and there is a leak before pump then the vacumn would run or cycle all the time. If not then the leak is after the pump. That should narrow it down a lot. Also leak could be at the pump out fitting. So it only leaked during the pump out process.

I had a slow leak after the vacuum pump. I found it at the adapter reducing the hose to the outlet on the pump. We were away from the boat for a week and it slowly dripped about 1/2 gallon of honey in the bilge. Spent more time getting rid of the stink than it took to fix it. Since my pump wasn't cycling, I started inspecting from the lowest to the highest point in the system with dry paper towel.

Thanks for the replies. I think my problem is more like yours Skeetobite. I checked all the fittings again and well I found the tube for the discharge, the clamp was a bit loose. I finally brought a strong flashlight today and I was able to see a little below the tanks and saw it was somewhat damp.

Haven't seen any issues yet. But yes, I'm spending time trying to get the initial smell out of the boat. yuk.

Mine had a leak at the pump out fitting. Both clamps were loose. Luckily for me mine did not make a mess and I was able to get to it through a speaker hole to fix.
