Any one else going to Watch Hill this weekend? Looks like I am heading there saturday afternoon with wife, daughters and dog. Hopefully I can get a slip for Saturday night!

By the way, I have a message for Rob from Dean at Waves and Wheels. I had Dean himself making some final detailing touchups to my boat after his guys spent a day cleaning it. Boat came out looking perfect!

I have a bunch of friends there now... D dock is filling up. Heading there tonight. But I have 11' 6" so hopefully I get in..

Call and make a reservation first thing Saturday morning. There are other locations besides D Dock where you will fit.
With the iffy weather, I am sure you will get a spot!
 
I counted 83 redials and I just got a slip on B land. Last time it was 106.
 
Now that Watch Hill has WIfi, they should take internet reservations. Would sure save some wear and tear on the phone systems, fingers and wasted productivity. They would still be first come, the faster typer wins.

Be cool to see the Watch Hill marina come up on your screen, you fill in your info, they show you slips you are allowed to have, you click and pick, done!
 
Internet reservations would be very cool, but they would need to have a quick update and manage it correctly. Say someone is pulling in without a reservation, they look at their PDA or similar device and slip B9 is open and assign it. You are on the web picking your slip B9 at the same time. While the boater is pulling into B9 you press enter but the dock master did not update the PDA because they are checking out the cute girl or guy on the bow. But if perfected it would work…

Today, at 8:30 I started dialing, then I thought they may not be there until 9:00 so I call my friend BillyK, I did wake him.. ooops. He went to check out the office to make sure they were there; they were with two guys manning the phones. 83 dials later I got though… Better than 106 last time. If I was not at a regular phone and using a cell, that would really have been a hassle.
 
Just like any computer program, you can still get locked out.
You do it like ticketmaster, they get a slip, system locks it for 3 minutes, you enter your info and you get it.
If you don't enter info in 3 minutes, slip is released. Dockmaster, would have a list of free slips or slips with temp holds at a push of a button.

It would also help with billing as I would tell boats that if you don't checkout or ask for a late checkout, you get charged for another day automatically by computer to credit card on file. You can also easily keep track of the 12 nights for the free night. etc, etc, computers are great!
 
I called at 10:30am and got through first try. 4 slips left on D dock for 14' beam. Unfortunately I can not go until Saturday. Guy said he doubts I will get a slip Saturday if I do not come there today. This stinks - trying to do our first ride to watch hill on new boat - aaaaaahhhhhh!

I like Dave's idea - It could be like picking your seat on the airline sites. I think between Walter (Telecom) and me (Telecom & IT outsourcing), we could get it done for them, but we would have to get lifetime guaranteed reservations for us and you guys.
 
I wouldn't give up hope, there are slips on B Dock that will hold you, and I think 2 on A Dock.
You can always spend a night in a day slip if you so desire. The $6 you save on electric you can put towards gas to run the Genny on and off.
 
I am definitely not giving up. Trying to convince wife and kids to go tonight if possible. I have made the run to WH many times at night, so the ride is pretty easy. But, I would hate to sleep without AC on a hot humid weekend night that we are going to have.
 
You can always go today, then have them come over by ferry tommorrow.
Or go, leave the boat, take ferry home, come back on Saturday.
There are ways!
 
Well, I lucked out at approx 9:30am, and got the last slip on D Dock today (D10). Unfortunately that is where my luck ended. On way to Watch Hill, got into pretty thick fog! Not my first time, but finding the Watch Hill channel was not a slam dunk in pea soup. I found the 1 & 2 buoy then the 3 & 4 after some searching, but that is where it ended. As I headed in what felt like the right direction as per my GPS, but it was not the right direction - little room for error here! Unfortunately my radar was not picking up the watch hill channel buoys. I wound up touching some sand just to the east side of the channel heading to buoy 5 & 6. I did not want to get in more trouble so I dropped anchor. Well, I had my first exprience of not sure what it is called (kedging?), but I took my anchor and line in my dinghy and dropped the anchor in the channel. I then used my windlass and power of engine and got out of the sand and back in the channel. Still could not see next set of buoys, but made it in. I probably should have called Boat US, but I was a man on a mission...

Exciting day, a little stressful and frustrating, but still rather be on the water than anyplace else! Just wish we had a little more water in the GSB!!!!

Of course no dirt on the boat, since Dean personably applied the special "Dean" impenetreable wax.

Boat looks great! Came home in some snot that would have made for an umcomfortable ride on my prior boat - With this 410da, I just ran right thru the slop very comfortably. Love those Diesels!!!
