Watch Hill this weekend

When you reach the Lindenhurst cut head North to the bay. It is an easier run in the bay.Go through the bay bridge and towards Bayshore. After Bayshore stay on the North side of the middle of the bay until you feel comfortable heading for WH.Do not over shoot WH the water shallows up faster than you want. Have fun and have a drink on Brad. It's his birthday you know. Billy K.

Rob, I did not catch your post before... Thanks.

But maybe that is no longer allowed. I remember that was a common place.

I know… I could tell them….. Hey I am still a Sea Ray, but had a bit of shrinkage, and also lost a bit of color along the length of my….. Hull.

Hey bud, I guess we're neighbors as I am in East Rockaway as well. Just a heads up but the trip outside does not save a lot of time when going to Watch Hill. If you were headed to OB or any of the Western towns you can save a bit of time going outside. My best trip ER Inlet to FI Inlet about 1 hr. going avg of 30 KNots steady. Need to add time from inlet to destination.
Better trip and much more scenic is to take Reynolds to SBC to Amity Cut head to N side of bay and take across to the E. Follow under RMB and at marker 34 Red (if memory serves) you head down to the SE and enter WH via runway lights.
Great trip with no speedzones after Amity Cut. Total time 2 hrs avg 30 Knot cruise.
Let me know if you need any info, perhaps we'll hook somewhere over the summer.
Luck

Harris,

Thanks for the information.

Right now I am at Davison's which is my winter spot. We summer in Glen Cove so we will be heading there after the weekend. I wanted to spend a few days on the south shore so this weekend seemed logical as the boat was not ready. Hoping to get a few issues resolved so that I am not delayed. Everything with mechanics and boat yards is last minute.

With the cost of diesel, I'm figuring to run at no more than 20 knots.

Thanks Billy.

Gotta get Brad in there so we can run a tab on him.;)

Brad,
i was just told min boat size for d dock is 37 feet.

Sorry buddy

Rob

Mark,
If you go inside, I would avoid the Amityville cut with your draft. Better off in Lindy cut or Babylon cut. Also be careful around Jones Inlet, markers get confusing and there is some shallow spots. Stop in Island Park for lunch or a drink! You will need to have them open the railroad bridge for you by Rockaway. Good luck!

Brad,
Tie your boat 5 feet from dock, noone will notice!

Why not run the state channel all the way to the West Channel and then head north?

Yes,
You can do that, I actually think that is easier.

I am not sure I will be able to make it to WH, will try to make a reservation on Thursday. My 18 year old son thinks when mom and dad are out its time to have a party at the house. :(

I don't know when you were planning on heading over, but if you need help out to the ocean, etc. let me know. Also we will be cruising in the Easterly direction on Sat AM so if you would like to follow along on the inside all good.

Mark, you could do that also. But by going into the bay before then (Babylon Cut would be best) you avoid the no wake zone by Captree state park, some potentially confusing turns in the channel around that area, and going south to head back north. The channel has completely changed just past Captree so your charts are probably incorrect, and it's now no wake from the Babylon cut to past Capree. It is a nice ride through there, but if you go into the bay sooner it's a straight shot east from there.

If the weather is reasonable I would say sticking to the ocean is a better option. You'll be going with the seas and if you make FI inlet by 1pm you'll have incoming tide. With your draft and height it will be an easier trip. You will probably not clear the Wantagh Pkwy bridge at Goose Creek and there isn't necessarily someone there to open the bridge, I've had to wait 20+ minutes while the guy drives over from the Meadowbrook. I can just get through it with this boat but it's close and I think you may be a little higher.

John

Walter, completely understand. My son is 20. Unfortunately for him, the neighbors report his every move.

Harris, Thanks. We make that trip through East Rockaway inlet at least twice a year. This is our first time heading east instead of west.

John, Thanks. I see what you mean. I have the latest C-Map chip but I never trust it completely. My first choice is to run the ocean, just contingency planning because after all the BS I'm going through to be ready to go, I'm not staying at the dock if it's a little breezy.

BTW - pretty big aircraft carrier hangin in the outer harbor off the belt parkway, I assume for the holiday festivities. Slowed traffic down pretty good in that area tonight. Although a tire changer can do that too..:)

Son is 20, daughter is 17. Both plan to come over to watch hill.
Son with his girlfriend....the question is, do I let him and his girlfriend sleep in back cabin together or make the sleep apart?

As for the party, he knows the rules. U can't control it, they will do it anyway. Just make sure they know the house rules!!!!

You mean it isn't??? Oops, I better change my plans, from what he told me, sounded like it was gonna be a blast!

I think Rob is leaving Watch Hill early to go to the party Walter's son is throwing :D

Mark, I saw a sign for 'Fleet Week' so there will probably be a couple navy ships around, I think they do it every year for Memorial Day.

Yes, Fleet Week is beginning. I read that there will be fewer ships than ever participating. If you see our sailors on the streets let them know how much we appreciate all they do.

Fleet week! Lock up your wives and daughters!

All these parents on their boats and kids home alone, just gave me a business idea....WWW.MYPARENTSAREAWAY.COM.

Can advertise the party, buy beer, alcohol, other party accessories, invite friends, etc!!

Walter,
Isn't one of your businesses to install CCTV. Install some cameras outside your own house and keep an eye on the place. I have to find out what software Pascal is using to stream his helm cam, becuase I can get that image on my blackberry, which is good, becuase then you can see it no matter where you are as long as you have a cell signal.

How plans can change overnight.

I may not be able to leave Saturday following our club ceremonies. At one point I thought of going on Sunday, but that is not what I was hoping for. So it looks like I have to bail…

We have a club trip next Saturday, but I am traveling to Nashville for a conference Wed-Fri. Now with the Power Squadron coming that weekend, if I can’t get there Friday, I may not get in. Looks that that is also a wash….

Seems, like no Watch Hill for me anytime soon… . I am so bummed.

Does anyone know of some good gardening tips.
