Watch Hill Trips…

Who is going and when?

Mark, John and maybe Rob could be in for the Memorial weekend, I may be able to go but can't until midday Saturday after our clubs ceremonies. I should be able to get in with 11'6 beam, I hope.

The wife and I normally go to Atlantique and do a birthday dinner someplace in OB “the land of no" via water taxi but this could be a nice change.

I know I am going to WH the next weekend on 5/31 as an already planed group trip.

We usually do about 5 trips during the season mostly at the beginning and end.
 
We'll be there most of the major weekends as well as some long weekend trips. I'll be working half days on Friday so I will take any opportunity to make a long weekend....hopefully with a new for us boat. Keep us in the loop, it would be nice to meet some of you.

Any friends of watch hill people out there... UR web site sucks ....

No news on renovations ... no news on when the place opens ... just pictures and home movies of FRIENDS OF WATCH HILL.....

I was able to arrange the work schedule so Memorial Day weekend is free. Planning to head over there Thursday evening if I get a reservation in the morning.
 
That's our plan as well. Probably be there somethime in the early afternoon.

Will be over late Thursday night.
I land from Michigan at 7PM, be at boat by 8PM, be at watch hill by 9:00 or so!
Will make reservation first thing in the morning!
 
I have no choice but to go on Saturday after our commissioning day ceremonies as I would have to walk the plank if I did not show. I will try for reservations in the AM. If I can’t get in I will head to Atlantique. Or maybe call one of you guys to see if anything is open.
 
You will never get in on Saturday!
You could anchor off there, it is easy anchoring if you get in the hole there.
Then it get shallow quick, so its easy to wade in.
 
I've only gone for Memorial Day weekend a couple times and one time at least I remember a few large slips still open fairly late Saturday. The weather is still questionable that time of year so it may not fill up. Probably won't be able to get a reservation Saturday but maybe call and see if anything is open.
 
Actually if you can't get reservation, you can still get a slip.
Remember, they only take reservations for 1/3 of the slips.
So if there is 188, then only 63 or so are reserved.
The other 2/3's are first come first served.
If you know someone, call, and sometimes, they can go to dockmaster and reserve it in person.
Cash always talks.
 
Actually the Tide thread brings a question to mind.

My plan is to run outside to FI inlet unless the weather is crap. Looking at my chart, I see the route I must take from the FI inlet brings me in a northerly loop from about where Flyn's is/was toward the Connetquat river and then back south to the Watch Hill Channel. Drawing 4'2", do I need to be overly concerned about the tide or am I good as long as I stay in the channels?

I'm asking about the channels (including the one into Watch Hill) not the shortcuts.

sorry.. maybe if they stop putzing and get back to boating someone could help u ... JOhn would know ... he'll post when he reads...

IF ur in the channel anywhere in this sandbox ur fine at 4'2" just cant miss a single bouy,.

I can meet you and you can follow me, but I wouldn't go the Flynns route. It gets shallow past Flynns. I would come in the inlet, go under the bridge and staying along Fire Island until you get to the West Channel. This is marked by Green "EW". Take the West channel to the North channel, then its pretty straight and I would head Southeast at Green "35". Set a waypoint for the opening of Watch Hill and when you get between the first two stay in the center if possible. When you see the marina, stay left as there is a shallow spot at the end of the channel on thr right. You will see two lights heading into the marina. This is a range, the lights are suppose to be one on top of the other from your visual, this means you are centered and in the channel!

Again, I offer to let you follow me, but I seem to have a bad rep!

Let me give my electronic chart a look.

So I take the west channel rather than the east channel. Looks a little bit longer but much wider on my C-Map chart.

I don't want to be blamed if you go my way and something happens! Here is the East Channel. Flynns is that square with the 6 in it. Look at the channel and you will see some 3, 4, and 5 depth markers. The ferry does it thru here but he knows it well. I touched in this area once at low tide and draw 3 feet or so.
